pnhmrk Posted September 25, 2010 #51 Share Posted September 25, 2010 Wow, I never expected such a response for my simple question. You should have asked about smoking when wearing evening attire. That would really have set the cat amongst the pigeons! ;)
pepperrn Posted September 25, 2010 #52 Share Posted September 25, 2010 And many (including a lot of her captains) said that the QE2 was the last liner and that there would never be a replacement built. Will the QM2 hold that title now or will the design of her replacement be started soon? Hi Malcolm Indeed! I have books from a few years back that say that the QE2 will be the last liner ever built (most of these were written after the United States and the France had retired). One or two say that there will never be a passenger ship built that will be larger than QE2 "as there is no need"... QM2 has a design life of 40 years, so they shouldn't need to think about a replacement for a few years yet! And of course, she could well be the last liner! It seems so glamorous and classy!!

Hi Pepperrn, I think that there will always be a niche market for transatlantic ship travel and so I don't think QM2 will be the last Transatlantic Liner. There will always be myself included enough people to maintain a one ship Transatlantic Liner service despising airline travel being one of the reasons. And remember the majority of us here will be dead when QM2 goes out of service. I for one can't see myself being in a position to worry about whether to book or not for her final voyage. Although plenty of people do really dislike flying, I've not met anyone who despises it. What makes you despise, rather than dislike, it?

Especially when flying coach it feels like being in a crowded flying cattle car, annoying passengers and let's face it airline food looks disgusting and it would be even cruel and inhuman to feed airline food to a dog. Then there are the worries of plane crashes due to pilot error, pilot being intoxicated, mechanical failure and remember terrorism on 9-11-01. If some people choose to fly that is their choice and they are free to make flying in a plane as their choice. However I choose not to do any airline travel and that is my choice. omakim Posted September 26, 2010 #61 Share Posted September 26, 2010 Stay formal or go to bed. That's what I did. Not that I'm too old to enjoy the excitement of the evenings, I just knew without asking - like Lynn's "personal code." Besides, climbing out of a tuxedo into something else is too much work. So I stayed formal or went to bed. And just loved it all..... Jon.
bazzaw Posted September 26, 2010 #62 Share Posted September 26, 2010 Dorry worry about the plastic decking. It is when they finally decide to use plastic for the hull that we should start to get concerned. -- don't laugh, I'm serious :p Barry
north east girl Posted October 1, 2010 #63 Share Posted October 1, 2010 Hi All, Just got back from our med trip. Can tell you that some passengers do not follow the dress code in Kings Court on an evening. We were walking through to go to dinner and noticed the dress was very casual, ie shorts and t shirts. The other venues that change and have candle light were very popular and all the passengers did follow the dress code in these venues. Can't say I noticed if they walked round the ship in their shorts and t shirts because we always went to the shows. Every body was always well dressed in there. Thanks for that info. We've never dined in the Kings Court alternative dining venues. You wrote that passengers follow the dress code in those venues. Does that mean that on Formal Nights, men dress in a tuxedo and women dress in evening gowns in the alternative dinining venues at Kings Court? Happy that you had a safe and enjoyable voyage. What oceans are you exploring on our next voyage? Cheers, Salacia

I would say most did follow the dress code in these venues. It made it look like a more enjoyable experience. I will do a review of our trip later today. Did enquire about the QE for next year. We may skip next year because of our daughters wedding and may do a caribean trip in 2012. Unless we see a really good deal for next year. saltcay Posted October 3, 2010 #68 Share Posted October 3, 2010 On the two transatlantic crossings I have done on Cunard (QE2), I stayed in my formal wear throughout the evening, sometimes changing into more casual clothes well after midnight. However, as others have posted, the formal aspect of Cunard is what seperates them from many of the other cruise lines out there. Get dressed up and enjoy it! We used to change back to csaual well after midnight. The smoke used to get pretty bad in the Casino, etc. They were starting to ban the smoking in most public rooms on our last trip.
