Elation Review 9-20 to 9-25

Embarkation We arrived at the parking garage in Mobile at 10:15 a.m. We were informed that they wouldn’t start letting folks in until 10:30. There is a little road right beside the garage and cars were lining up there. We got into line and were let into the garage at 10:30.

Went and found a parking spot on level 3 and took the elevator down to check in. This was our first cruise as “platinum” and we were escorted into a separate room for check-in. Our daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter were with us for their first cruise and they did the regular check in. As we were being escorted to the VIP waiting area, I asked the lady if our kids could board with us. She said, “of course”, and went and got them and we all boarded together in VIP. We were on the ship by 11:30.

Met with Matre’D Our granddaughter only drinks “lactose free” milk…not soy. We had sent an email to special needs prior to the cruise and at 1:00 p.m. I went to the Imagination Dining Room and met our Matre’D, Chubby. He called room service for me and told them that they were to have her milk available at all times. Every night when we went to the dining room, they had it on the table waiting for her. I can’t say enough good things about Chubby!

Cabins We had cabins M44 and M48 ocean view and they were ready at 1:30 p.m. M48 had the pull down bunk for our granddaughter.

The food was wonderful and the crew was the best! I think Elation has the friendliest crew we have sailed with….even a notch above Ecstasy.

This was the first time we cruised with a child and I can’t believe all the activities that Camp Carnival had for her. She loved it.

Debarkation Since we were Platinum this cruise, we received a letter in our cabin on the last day, instructing us to meet in the library at 8:00 a.m. Our kids debarked with us. About 8:30 a.m. one of the entertainment staff came and got us and escorted us through a separate line and off the ship. Once inside the building we were escorted around the self-debarking folks and straight to our luggage. We got a porter and were in our car pulling out by 9 a.m. It was a very organized debark.

If you have any questions…..just ask!

Hi TexasCruzr, Glad you and your family had a great time. How did you like your OV room? Would you select it again over the Port Hole Cabins? :)

We had this one booked way before we discovered port holes...lol They are both the same to me, so whenever I can save $$ I'll book at PT.

I was also on this cruise and would like to say that the embarkation and debarkation was great. Although I did not have any special request from Chubby he did come by our table several times and checked on us. We had Joel as our head waiter and Romeo as our room steward. Both of these people did excellent jobs. Everyone was very freindly on the ship.

We did the Twister excursion in Cozumel and the beach break in Calica. Both excursions was nice, I had did the Calica beach break before and the beach that the Twister took us to in Cozumel was beautiful. The Twister was alot of fun and I would do it again.

I did not do alot of the things that were offerd on ship due to the fact tht I have already did many of them already. I did attend the Newley Wed game, and the late R rated comics at night. I thought the first comic was very funny and the second comic I had seen several times before and had heard several of his jokes. I did not attend any of the shows so I can not comment on them.

I will be back on this ship in Dec with my BF and can't wait.

Terri....we were very surprised how organized embark and debark was, especially reading some of the other reviews. The parking garage was simple too....no problems at all.

Thanks so much for posting this. DH and I are going on Nov 29, so I am gathering all the info I can.

Terri, we had thought about the Twister.. but to be honest, it scares the crap out of me just reading about it... haha! (Yes, I am a wuss! lol) For Calica, we are thinking about the Playa del Carmen shopping and beach break.

Son't worry about the Twister. My Mother was with us and she is 66 and did fine on the Twister. She was nervous but it all worked out great. I had to remind her that it had to be safe or Carnival would not have it as an excursion. Most important for Carnival and all companies is the bottom line and if people could get hurt easily they would not make any money on it.

My daughter and I cruised on the ELation last May for the first time. Until then, the only ship we'd been on was the Fantasy. We'd heard that since the Elation had not been remodeled that a lot of folks didn't like it. But we had no problems and probably enjoyed it more than the Fantasy. No complaints about the ship itself; the only problem we had was getting onto the boat. Mobile was extremely crowded and it was the latest we'd ever gotten onboard-probably 2PM and we'd been waiting all morning. But inspite of the bad start we had a wonderul time and are sailing the Elation again in the spring of 2011. ;)

Just remembered.... my only complaint was the elevators were slow and on several occations was not working. Now this is not a huge deal because there was 4 elevators everywhere except where the glass ones was (which actually had 4 reg elevators very close to the 2 glass ones). Several times I would notice 1 of the 4 not working. This was only a problem when you were trying to get somewhere like after a show or other event was over. By the way I could and should have used the stairs more but my Mother has a problem doing steps so I was with her.

Thanks for the review. We have sailed several times out of Mobile on the Holiday and Fantasy, but our December cruise will be our first time on the Elation. We have always found the staff in Mobile to be very friendly, and the embarkation process smooth. We usually arrive around 11:00 and, unless the ship was delayed arriving into port that morning, we are able to go right into the terminal.

Alot of times kids will jump on the elevators and that will make them shut down and bad humidity will also make them shut down and not work right.I used to have to fix them all the time during spring break on Panama City Beach. Thanks for the post and we are looking forward to our cruise in Jan. on the Elation.
