tell me all about Carnival karaoke!

I like to think of myself as a karaoke superstar (:p) and I am REALLY looking forward to rocking the boat at karaoke!!

What can I expect? Meaning, is it a nightly event? And how crowded does it usually get, can I expect to get on stage or will there be 1,000 people ahead of me in line? Do they have a good play list, or is it pretty limited? I assume duets are okay also?

Thank you!

Thanks for the info! I'm hoping it's a moderate crowd - enough for a jumpin', lively audience, but not so many that I won't be able to get through the line.

Is it a nightly event, or only a couple of times a cruise?

Approximate times? e.g. 9pm-12am, when is it?

I have every intention of attending all of the stage shows and also want to get in as much karaoke as I can. :D

It's fun...do it. When we went in April, they had it pretty much daily, not necessarily at the same time. A couple of days it was in the afternoon. One day it was in the late afternoon/early evening. Other times it was later in the evening.

And if you're a karaoke superstar, there's no reason not to do kamikaze karaoke.

I, myself, am a karaoke Diva.. lol And I go to karaoke everynight of the cruise.. at least i try to go every night. crowd and rotation depend on the cruise.. its always different. but alot more watchers than singers.. selection is pitiful.. or at least it in for what i look for.. i just bring my purchased karaoke cd's with me.. and as long as the ship still has the system that will play discs they will usually play them.. but they will not play homemade ones.. must be official. And I know that "LHP" will probably post on this page.. she is the resident CC karaoke Pro. She is the one that gave me most of this info when I first asked..

Yes, karaoke is an addiction of mine !!! :D

Karaoke is every night.

We eat EARLY SEATING to make sure I don't miss one minute.

Each ship varies some...but expect it to start at 8:30pm on Embarkation Day and go to around 11:30pm.

Subsequent nights will either start at 8:30pm OR 7:30pm....just check your Fun Times for the time AND LOCATION.... (yes, I have been known to skip dessert to make sure I make it to the early karaoke session)

On the Liberty...sometimes it is in the small lounge PROMENADE AFT (across from the piano bar) and sometimes it is in the AFT lounge (also on Promenade)...

They usually also do one or two afternoon sessions in the Casino area.

Attendance: The first night, it will not be crowded. Folks are eating dinner and then going to the 10:30PM Welcome Aboard Show. There will be some folks in there...but don't expect a crowd. The good news is that you get more singing time...because this will change as the cruise goes on.

On a 7 day cruise, it usually takes about 3 days for things to really heat up.

Attendance and participation will both increase. I have been on 7 day cruises where the attendance (about 300 people if they hold it in the AFT lounge.....about 100 if they hold it in the smaller lounge) was PACKED every night.

By the last day, I guarantee there will be folks walking up about 11:30pm...when it is shutting down for the last time complaining because they did not get to sing. I don't know why people wait to the last minute of the last night and do that????

And sadly, the selection (while a large number of songs) can some times be spotty. That is why I bring my own CDGS....HOWEVER it is up to the karaoke host to say "yes" or "no" if you can use them. It is not guaranteed.

As far as I know, the Liberty still uses the CAVS (some ships have gone to the Ethermedia system) ... so if you have your own CDGs here are the rules:

1. It must be mainstream music. A bunch of idiots brought on some vulgar violent homemade rap on the Paradise and almost ruined this privilege for all of us.

2. No bootlegging. You must have the original (store purchased cds). I have a computer system that rips, alters the key and burns my songs onto a blank CDG...but I bring my originals with me to prove these songs are not bootlegged.

3. MOST IMPORTANTLY....I don't care if the karaoke host plays frizbee with your CDGs.....YOU are responsible for any damage to your CDG. If the KH gets hungry and decides to snack on it between songs....neither Carnival nor the host is responsible.

Now I can say that in almost 40 Carnival cruises of using my own CDGS...not one time has one gotten even the smallest scratch. They handle them better than I do.

Btw, the Liberty is one of the two Carnival ships that we have never sailed.

We are sailing it November 27th and you would do me a HUGE favor if you would get the name of the karaoke host and if they are still going to be there when we sail.

THANKS and have a wonderful karaoke cruise.

So is what was posted for the new superstar karaoke or the other CD format karaoke? Will they have both once the new system is implemented on all the ships? We will be doing the 9 day Spirit in Feb. and want to see if we can plan a group thingy.

It is my understanding that Superstar Karaoke will only be on 7 day cruises and should be on all the ships by the end of the year.

There are 100 songs to choose from ....

here is the list: (about 3/4th way through the Blog)

These are the songs that you will sing with the Band.

This is being done in addition to the usual karaoke stuff!!!

What is kamikaze karaoke? Sounds dangerous and fun. :D

Kamakaze karaoke goes like this...

You go, sign up and pick your first song as normal. After that, the host picks your songs for you. You won't know what you'll have to sing until you get up there to sing it. Not to worry, though...the songs the host will pick for you are songs pretty much everyone knows.

On the Conquest a couple of weeks ago i was able to sing three times in about 25 minutes, lots of watchers, not many takers.

We were on the Conquest in May and we had several in our group who wanted to sing, but we got there about ten minutes after the time it was supposed to begin and couldn't sing because the lady running the karaoke said the list was full - the same few people were singing song after song. The next evening we got there on time and there was only one spot left on the list - again people had gotten there early and were allowed to start signing up. So, it might have appeared there were just watchers to most people there as the same people were singing over and over. We gave up and didn't go to karaoke the rest of the trip - disappointing, but we didn't dwell on it; just moved on to fun elsewhere!

I don't know much about how karaoke is run, but other people more familiar with karaoke said it should have been done in a "rotation" so more people could sing? I don't sing, but to me it is more fun to watch when a variety of people sing.

LHP,

Have you heard if the band will change keys?

And is the list the same on all ships? I'm leaving Sunday on the Pride.

Do you know who's hosting regular karaoke on her and does the same person host the live band version?

Thanks for any help.

Linda (LHP) is unable to answer because she is on a B2B on the Carnival Triumph from New Orleans...

Howver, in nine days I am sure she will tell us all about it.

When you talk about key changes with a live orchestra, and no rehearsal, I would not expect much.

To the OP...as you can see, Karaoke is a MAJOR source on entertainment on Carnival ships. It is held every night and as Linda said, also during the days next to the Casino.

The Karaoke hosts will be the same every time you go, and this is normally their top priority job. It is not an after thougt.

When you arrive you should find books that are sorted by song and also by artist. You will write your name and song info on a form, and give it to the K host.

Crowds will vary...some nights full house...other nights half empty. But every night it seems more people come, and some even come just to hear certain singers.

I cruise to Karaoke....

JB...a Karaoke King.
