I'm sorry, but I don't buy it. Just b/c you can't smoke, people aren't going to want to drink? Honestly though, boleros is one place that if they're going to allow smoking - that's it. It's completely open and there's no smoking, but the closed in pub and casino you can smoke your heart out (no pun intended). Regardless, it's a health risk that causes cancer and heart disease among other illnesses and others are being exposed to it. No matter what way you slice it - that's not fair. I have absolutely no problem with anyone smoking... all I ask of them is to do it outside where they will get nobody but themselves sick.

 

The cruise line thinks this. Last year they tried making the Viking Crown Lounge totally non-smoking, which lasted for one month. They told us that they changed it back to half smoking because their bar sales went down during that time.

Perhaps one month isn't a sufficient amount of time to do a realistic comparison. It can take some time for the word to get out that formerly smoky lounges are no longer a problem, but the experience of land-based bars and lounges seem to show that after an initial drop in business, things rebound and they are doing as good or better business than before.

Smoking and smuggling booze are the two biggest topics on here :p I am a smoker and yes I will follow the rules on where to smoke and yes if pepole next to use are on there bal. when I am smoking and they say it is bothering them I will try to refran from smoking when they are there. But if they just want to leave there bal. door open all evening and the smoke goes in there cabin then they should shut there door.:rolleyes:

i am a non smoker and wonder what the problem is.

I believe that RCCL are fair in the way they treat smokers, allowing certain bars and to smoke on the balconies, which they pay extra for, against an inside cabin price.

There sister Company is for the non smokers.

 

 

Looks like you fell for this thread. To add a comment to one item that you had mentioned, we also pay extra for the balcony as non-smokers and should be able to enjoy it smoke free.

I agree, one month is not long enough in order to really test it. I think that the bar manager panicked when sales dropped. Most restaurants down here in Florida dropped a little business initially after the smoking ban took effect, but they have picked it back up and then some.;)

I guess all of us non-smokers didn't book enough on the Carnival Paradise back when it was smoke free. Even the crew was not allowed to smoke. I applaud Carnival for trying such a bold experiment, even though it failed.

Celebrity is still going strong and enforces the rules.:D

I want to be able to go into a lounge or bar where smoking is not permitted at all. Even the best air filtration system in the world will not remove all the smoke from the air. Smoke drifts.

 

This is totally accurate on filtration systems, how many times have you walked by a "smoking booth" at an airport and all you could see was heavy smoke barely seeing anybody in there? :eek: . Even sitting outside the Pub on IOS in the promenade, the smoke "drifted" outside into the promenade area where we were sitting, so we moved to the furthest table away from the door which helped a little. It happens; air moves around and if smoke is in it, the smoke moves with it.

 

Regarding other posters comments on balconies, yes air moves past you, but if someone is on the balcony upwind of you smoking, you're always in the downwind airflow and constantly smelling the smoke, I can confirm that.

 

This issue and debate will never successfully come to an end because smokers have a right to smoke if they want, but non-smokers also have a right not to breathe it. This subject will go on and on unless a moderator closes it.

Bars that your allowed to smoke on the Oasis are.....Hopefully I get these right it has been a year since we were on the Oasis...But I am a smoker and I found just about all the bars you could smoke in.....Casino, not at the bar but at the little tables by the bar and the tables always had people sitting there (even though the bartenders sometimes let some people smoke at the bar). Bolero small corner of the bar. The area where you can smoke was always packed even if the rest of the nightclub was completely empty. Schooner bar you can smoke only at the bar and that area was always packed also. Blaze nightclub the have this room all the way in the corner away from the bar and everything else. Nobody was in there or the nightclub!! Dazzles upstairs only, It was packed also. You can also smoke at one of the pool bars cant remember the name but smoking only allowed on one side of the ship. All the places where you can smoke were very small and always crowded. The casino was 1/2 smoking and 1/2 Non-smoking. I went over to the non smoking section a couple times(not smoking of course) it was very sparse compared to the smoking side.

Other lines have no problems with allowing smoking in staterooms and if RCI did this then people would have no need to go on their balconies for a smoke. Non-smokers have no complaints either as whatever they use to get rid of the smell seems to do the job.

thank you at least you understand what i am saying they samething is happing to boleros sales are going down but i was told by a crew member on the freedom they goona put smoking back at boleros.

How many threads are going to be devoted to this topic? It goes on and on and on!!! We all do research when we are looking for a cruise, research the cruise lines that have the most restricted rules on smoking. Obviously, the cruise lines make just as much or more money booking smokers than nonsmokers. :rolleyes:

Ahhh... with the ship travelling upwards of 24 knots, I can see how smoke would linger in one place, and not be intermixed with the billions of other air molecules passing by your balcony every fraction of a second. :rolleyes:

the smoking ban may have had a small influemce on pub usage in the uk, but i noticed that they had been in decline well before the smoking ban.

 

Its a cultural change and there is no need for a pub on every corner anymore (in towns)

Agreed, 15 pubs went for auction in a small area of South Wales recently with others closing pretty rapidly. Absolutely nothing to do with culture, even the pub owners are saying that the no smoking has killed their trade.

Lots of luck on that info, I have been asking on every smoking thread which bars on the Oasis allow smoking. Please someone help me out. I am a non-smoker with a dh who looks forward to a drink and cigarette in the evening. I would like to have this info before boarding.

Just back from Oasis and despite the fact that 50% of the casino was supposed to be smoke-free, the smell was awful. Something has to be done. We were on Celebrity Millenium and there was no smoking in the casino. What a joy!

Doesn't the cruise compass inform you on what venues you can smoke and which ones you can't once you get onboard? You can even pick one up when you check in and get your Sea Pass card before you even board.;)

It is almost impossible to have 50% smoking and 50% non-smoking in any room even if they say that. Nice to know about Celebrity, I am thinking about a cruise in 2012 on one of the newer ships since we have next year all booked up already.
