north east girl review QM2 med trip

I've been back 3 days now and thought I would let you know how the trip went.

First I will tell you about the QM2 and then the ports of call.

The embarkation went very smoothly and we were on board by 12.30 and enjoying our first of many lovely lunches in Princess Grill. We unpacked and were enjoying discovering the QM2 once again.

Sailaway was delayed due to the boat train being late. We had arranged to meet our fellow cruise critic members in the Commodore Club at 7.30. We cut short the sailaway and got ready for the meet. Must say the meet was well attended and we all had a great time getting to know each other. Some we did bump into from time to time and it was nice to chat with them.

We had a nice surprise when Will and Cath invited us to their renewel of vows for their 20th wedding anniversary. We had meet them at the cruise critic meet up and would see them in PG. This took place on our 3rd sea day. It was very enjoyable and made me think that it might be nice if we do it for our 30th in 4 years time. I would like our daughter and son and there partners to join us. It was really nice to be part of Will and Cath's special day.

We did enjoy having the first 3 days at sea to enjoy all of what QM2 had to offer. It was very relaxing, we would sometimes sleep in and miss breakfast. This gave us the chance to us Kings Court as I like the food in Lotus.

Made use of the hair salon for one of our formal nights when I got my hair blow dryed. Also had a pedicure when there was a special offer on.

We got into a nice routine of having coffee in Sir Samuels, going to the pub for the quiz days. Most of all I liked the the afternoon entertainment in Royal Court. The classical concert by Allan Schiller took place on 2 afternoons. I went to both on my own as Tony did not want to go. What I love about QM2 is being able to walk round on my own and feel comfortable about it. Tony would often go the the casino when I wanted to do other things.

All the entertainment offered from classical to the Royal Cunard singers and dancers were first class. Very impressed with the evening with the big band and the singers where they each did a solo spot. I think they have improved since our TA last year.

The food in PG was first class, plus the service. Some have said there is less choice now. Every other night they have a chefs special menu and the other remains the same. I had my favorites that I order on more than one occassion.

Must tell you I went to a martini mixology class which I enjoyed very much. Did learn lots about martinis and where they came from. I did discover where I have been going wrong with mine at home. My martini glassed are far too big. I was adding extra to make them look full. My new favorite martini is now a Ginger Como, it has vodka, ginger and cranberry juice shaken with ice. Then they squeeze orange peel and light it which makes the martini smell and taste of orange at first.

In summary this trip was a great experience. I enjoyed every minute of it. Will post a review of the ports of call later.

Great review Catherine. It was a good trip and I hope that everyone enjoyed it as much as we did. Lots of sun and far too much to eat and drink.

Hi pudd, totally agree, will have to cut down now to lose the weight I have gained. Whats not to like on QM2, I just love it.

Hi Northeastgirl,

Thanks for your report, wonderful to hear you had a fabulous time again (what is not to love?...)

I was wondering as (if I remember you have been in both restaurants for different voyages - Britannia Restaurant and Princess Grills) how you found the Princess Grills atmosphere compared with that of the Britannia Restaurant? Thanks :)

Hi Catherine: It was nice spending time with you and Tony - pity we didn't win the quiz ;) and, I now know which Vodka I prefer :D We also had a great time on board and look forward to next year on the Queen Elizabeth.

I thought of you both driving home in all that rain. We had a taxi to Heathrow and a long flight to Los Angeles but happily arrived under clear blue, sunny skies.

I now plan to download the Video I took, onto a DVD, and will enjoy the cruise over again.

It's now 5:30am - the Jet Lag is still working :(

Regards

Shirley and Michael

Hi Catherine and thanks for the report.

Our butcher had a great time, it was his first cruise and he is already talking about going again.

I look forward to seeing you in Manchester on Saturday :)

Yes looking forward to the meet on Saturday. Hope the weather is good.

I think your friend has caught the Cunard bug already.

Hi BritNavyGal,The thing I noticed the most was getting to know our waiters with having the same table for all our meals.

With the PG restaurant being smaller than Britannia it is quieter, also you can take as long a you like over meals with having open seating.

The tables in our area were never full at the same time, we even arrived to eat at different time to our table mates. It was never a problem, in the evening we all seemed to finish our meals at the same time, even though we did not start at the same time.

Hi Shirley, It was great to finally meet you both, we could have done with your help on the last quiz we did. We were rubbish without you helping us.

It rained all the way home on Friday, I needed the weekend to charge my batteries before work this morning.

You can start the count down to your next cruise now.

Thank you for posting your review. I am curious about this boat train. Was it the Orient Express or some other special train? Sadly, regular boat train service hasn't been operated in years.

Hi david, just checked out our roll call, one of our fellow cruise critic members booked the train as part of a package. The train was the Orient Express, I remember them saying what a great journey it was.

They booked through cruise saver travel on the internet.
