Emma1 Posted October 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 13, 2010 Our first cruise out of Barcelona and are trying to use mileage. latest mileage flight leaves at 11:20 am. If we can get off the ship at 7 and have a car service waiting for us as we are 5, is this doable? Even if there is a delay and we leave at 8, is it doable? WE are not familar with Barcelona airport or port so do not know what to expect. We are staying pre cruise 3 nights in BArcelona and were not planning on staying post cruise. Or if not doable then we may change to pre cruise 2 nights and one post cruise.
dabear Posted October 13, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 13, 2010 There are many threads on this subject if you look. Many will say 11:20am should be fine, while others say not b4 12pm. We also are using miles but our flight leaves at 12:10pm to Munich and then change planes for Chicago.
operafan Posted October 13, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 13, 2010 Is the ship scheduled to dock at 7am or can you debark at 7am?? Our ship starts debarkation at 7am and I'm going to book an 11:00 flight. We've done it many times with no problem. That said, the airport is relatively close to the docks but weekday traffic adds a bit to the ride. On weekends we've made it to the airport in 15 minutes, weekdays, closer to 30. You should be ok with an 11:20 flight but you might want to double check the time you can leave. An easy way to do that is to call the cruise line and ask them what time your earliest flight can be. Falcons07 Posted October 13, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 13, 2010 We just returned last week from Barcelona and had the 11:20 Delta flight. We had also booked a taxi... autosvilar .com with Juan. We were the first at the check in desk at the airport and through security by 8 AM. Many on our ship had flights as early as 9:45...that's a little close. Terry ... Emma1 Posted October 13, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted October 13, 2010 This looks doable. The previous reply : what time did you leave the ship? We are on Disney and it is supposed to start disembarking at 7. Where did your taxi meet you - was he easy to meet? we are unfamiliar with Barcelona
Toots Posted October 16, 2010 #6 Share Posted October 16, 2010 The airport is only 20 minutes away by taxi, IF traffic moves fast. If several other ships are in port, traffic can get quite congested. I would stay a night in Barcelona post-cruise. Why make yourself nervous, wondering if you can make your flight?
shannon50 Posted October 16, 2010 #7 Share Posted October 16, 2010 We had a 10:30 AM flight. We were off the boat by 6:30 AM and to the airport by 7 AM. Its totally doable. We did self disembarkation which made it even easier.
chipmaster Posted October 16, 2010 #8 Share Posted October 16, 2010 Only you can decide This much is certain, distance from airport to pier is not far 20-30' Thing to factor is how organized and efficient is the disembarkation, how many people want to get off in the first wave, will you use standard shuttle, taxi or pre-reserved. Clearly free flight makes it worthwhile to spend a bit a reliable private shuttle/tax. I have yet to be on a cruise where they were "late" getting into their final disembarkation. Schedule is tight for the lines too, getting everyone off, cleaning the ship and leave the same day with a new load of people. FWIW I'd do it too :D
tartegnin Posted October 18, 2010 #9 Share Posted October 18, 2010 I also think it's do-able, but could depend on what airline and what class of service or status you have. If you can do on line check in the day before and have boarding passes in hand, this often grants you an important extra 15 minutes or so between when check in for the flight closes and time to check in luggage (that is, you are already checked in for the flight, and they will still check in the luggage after the flight has closed). This varies from airport to airport and airline to airline. It's also easier to run up to a counter to check in or hand over luggage in C (or status line) than in Y ...
