Booking while on a cruise

I know you can book a cruise while on a cruise but can you book just a future cruise without specifics. For instance Princess allows you to purchase a Future Cruise Credit (FCC), which means you don't have to book the specific cruise till a later date. Does RCCL do the same type of thing?

Yes, same concept - Next Cruise certificate. $100 deposit per person and OBC (depends on length of cruise when you decide upon one)

 

What they said. And it's a fully refundable deposit (in accordance with the payment time tables) once it is applied to a cruise. Enjoy!

We did this on our last cruise. It was the best thing I've ever done because that $100 is your deposit on whichever cruise you choose. We booked a transatlantic 16 nighter which would have normally required a $450 deposit but this certificate got us right in with no additional deposit.

 

I've seen a caution on this board about the refundability of the money, though. If you were to book a cruise and then cancel, your deposit would not be refundable. You can circumvent this by just transferring the deposit to another cruise. Just make sure they know up front that the deposit was part of a next cruise booking. I do believe, however, that you can get the deposit refunded if you never decide to book a future cruise.

Hi Joan........It's not the certificate that got you the reduced deposit, because as you said, once you activated it and booked the TA you would have had to pay the remainder of the deposit.

 

Now, with any booking made on board, be it a specific or a Why Not Decide Later booking, the deposit is reduced and no further payment is necessary until final payment.

I actually emailed C&A about this and this was the response:

 

"You will get a full refund if you notify us in writing at least 75* days prior to your sailing date (60 days for 3 & 4-night cruises or 90 days for holiday sailings).

"Deposit on a Decide Later reservation is refundable, within normal cancellation guidelines, only if a ship and sail date have been assigned to the reservation. If you cancel while in Decide Later status, the deposit is non-refundable."

Which basically means that if you purchase a Why Not Decide Later booking and once home stick it in a drawer and forget about it.......it is non-refundable. It has to be used to be refundable..........same way as NextCruise was set up.

How soon after your cruise do you have to decide on another cruise, and when does that cruise have to take place?

With a Why Not Decide Later booking...........it is good forever. It never expires. You pay a $100pp deposit.

 

On your Confirmation Letter you will have a booking number........that is inactive. It only becomes active when you assign a sailing date to it. Once activated, no further money is required until final payment date.

 

The date of purchase is also the date that will guarantee you what benefits you will receive if the combining of benefits/pricing policy changes.

It is now known as a Why Not Decide Late booking.........same rules apply as when it was called NextCruise.

 

It can get confusing, the one I got on Vision last month is called NextCruise Certificate, with the 2 NextCruise Decide Later certificates attached for family/friends.

:eek: Then they wonder why we complain!!

 

I purchased two "whatever they are called now" bookings and didn't get Certs for F&F because they were out of them. They did note that on our confirmation..........

We booked a future cruise while on Celebrity this past spring. We set no date at the time and, in addition, had the freedom of booking our next cruise on either Royal Caribbean or Celebrity. We also got OBC. As far as I am concerned, it is a win-win deal! :D

Just never use the word "cancel" when using a Next Cruise Certificate when changing date/ships etc. always make sure the same booking # is used or you will loose the benefits associated with it....;)

I will have a lot of OBC on my upcoming cruise, can I use that to pay for these $100 deposits?

Is your OBC refundable or non-refundable? If it is refundable then it will be applied to the credit card on file and will appear on your next months statement as a credit from RCI. If you book anything on the ship, it automatically goes to the credit card on file as a debit, unless you use another card. Your credits will then pay your debits.:D

If the OBC is from a price reduction then it is refundable. If it is from your TA, it is also refundable. If it's from Visa points, it should be refundable, but they will tell you otherwise. It only becomes non-refundable if it is an OBC from booking on board.

 

Bookings on board are handled separately and are not part of your SeaPass Account.

 

Now, you didn't hear this from me but if you want to withdraw any OBC out against your SeaPass account, you can go to the Casino and withdraw cash. They will charge you a 3% service charge.

 

Withdrawing this cash will then allow you to pay your credit card statement off when you get home. But........you didn't hear this from me.:D

Thanks! OBC is from downgrade which means price reduction I believe. My TA said it wasn't refundable, but then they tell me other things that aren't true either.

I did know about the casino refund, so if all else fails will do that.
