Thanksgiving on Westerdam

When you have an American Thanksgiving Dinner on a cruise ship, the menu was designed by a European Corporate Chef, the food prepared by a mixture of European Chefs and Asian cooks, and served by a waiter from Eastern Europe, Asia, or the Caribbean Islands.

Most of these people know less than nothing about the American Thanksgiving rituals.

Do not be too surprised if your cruise ship Thanksgiving Dinner is just a wee bit different from the one that Aunt Mary makes back on the farm in Ohio.

they don't cook whole birds on HAL ships but serve a cryovac wrapped turkey roll w/o skin or bones sort of like the supermarket frozen turkey rolls. We avoid it and order lamb or some other main course. They do get the side dishes right.

They will have turkey and sides on the menu but it won't be the same as you're used to - unless you go out to a restaurant for Thanksgiving - because there won't be the wonderful aromas of roast turkey, etc. wafting through the dining room.

We took our first Celebrity cruise 5 Thanksgivings ago and the Thanksgiving Dinner was so bad (and the other food just ok) and we were so disappointed that we never went back to Celebrity.

We were on the Zuiderdam two years ago for Thanksgiving...and the turkey was excellent very flavorful, moist and tender...the stuffing/dressing was definitely not made like my mothers...but having live all over the US that is one food that really differs based on part of country and family tradition...hard to get it right for everyone...however, the dinner was very good and quite festive...
