triple play chips

My understanding is they are "match play" chips, worth $5 each. Similar to the match play coupons you would get an any casino coupon book, but the difference being the chip remains in action on any winning bet..with coupons you lose it, win or lose.

You need to match each chip with a $5 real money chip, and if you win you keep both and collect winnings as if you had played $10. Say you are playing BlackJack and are dealt a winner..you would have risked $5 plus your triple play chip and won $10 in cash. Once you lose, you lose your triple play chip.

Also, I my understanding is it is good at any table game, but on even money bets only. No single numbers in roulette/hardways in craps, ect. Really just depends on the dealer I would say..in theory these are sucker plays, but it is fun playing a # for $5 and winning $350 so if you can get away with it, why not take a chance on a putting the odds in your favor.

Also, just got our cruise docs and it references a $20 slot play for $10 special in the book..but see nothing about this on the bon voyage list.

No, the Triple Play Chips are not match play chips. You can play them individually on their own. Post #2 has it right - you get 3 $5 chips for $10. The only caveat is that you cannot just turn around and cash them in at the cage. You play them until they're lost but you get paid in real chips when you win. It's a good deal. I buy them every time I cruise on NCL.

Other than the dealer and floorperson getting in trouble and potentially losing jobs, I see no problem in it!:(

  • 4 months later...

Just got off the Epic. I had purchased one ahead of time (bon voyage gifts) for myself and Cheryl. I picked them up at the cashier without issue. Though when I got to the BJ table, they told me that those were no longer being honored (even checked with the pit supervisor). I told them that I purchased them a couple of weeks ago online, and that they JUST gave them to me at the cashiers!

They allowed me to use them (I had 6 of the $5 chips)... and, JUST LIKE EVERY TIME I have used those, each bet was LOST on the first try. So, I never really had a chance to use them a second or third time (which it the whole point of them to begin with)!

On the Sky, something interesting happened with one bet while using a promo chip. I got a blackjack, and the dealer had an ace showing. I rejected the offer of "even money" (as I always do), and the dealer did indeed have a BJ. What caught me by surprise was that they TOOK the promo chip from the betting circle. I said "Hey, I am supposed to have that chip until I lose it!". They said, "you didn't win"! I was amazed, and no amount of logic or talk with the pit managed to get that chip back. THAT was plain WRONG!!

The dealer snatched it, with the pit person right over their shoulder. I protested (more than a whimper, and more than once), but to no avail. The pit had already made up their mind, and there was no going back. I suppose I could have asked for the manager, but did not want to build any ill will ! I played/lost enough those three days that they gave me almost $1,000 credit towards my shipboard charges on the last night!

Just so I understand correctly Tom, I pre-order a $100 triple play chip, and I receive 30x$5 "non-cashable" chips? Can I order one for every person in my party?

Are they no longer allowed on BJ? If so Im not sure I want them. I guess I can cover red and black for an almost guaranteed 50% profit and invest the returns on BJ.

The cost is $10 prior to sailing, and you will receive 3 $5 chips. Perhaps they are going to be phasing them out - either that, or there was some type of confusion in the pit I was playing at. It is only 1 per person - you'll likely need a players card for each person receiving one.

From the NCL WEBSITE:

706 Triple Play Chips

Triple Play Chips stay in play as long as they win, so you get more chances to lure Lady Luck to your side! And they're good on all table games, including Blackjack, Stud Poker, Craps, Roulette and Let It Ride (Limit 1 per person). $10.00

Looks like NCL is going by the letter of their law - since your bet pushed, it didn't win, which means that the Triple Play Chip no longer stays in play.

I was looking more at this line Tom....

.....do I receive 30x$5 chips? And does anyone know if I can play black/red if theyre phasing them out at BJ tables?

Sorry, Charlie...Triple Play Chips are only available as 3 $5 chips. The pre-purchase of chips in other denominations ($25, $50 & $100) are for actual, face value chips, which are either playable or cashable for cash money.

Sad... isn't it? All over FIVE BUCKS (it was sitting on top of 2-3 green chips) !!

Correct though --- it did not win (even though it didn't lose)!!

Agreed, but we all know that there's always a built-in house edge when casino gambling is concerned.

I was thrilled enough when I received $15 worth of those for $10. For some reason though, they seem to be the kiss of death!

No I understand exactly what he's asking and I have the same question! In the triple play section, you can buy $100 worth of triple play.. What does that get you!!!?? And if you can buy 100 dollars for yourself why are you saying it's only $5 per person? I leave for in the Gem in 4 days and I emailed them, it's not too late to buy anything except flowers. So I'd like to buy this tonight. They aren't answering back about how they are used though.

The triple play chips are item #706, and you are limited to $10 (but receive 3 $5 chips). The others listed there are just pre-purchased chips, with no special discount/advantages.
