US or pesos in Cozumel

We will be in Cozumel next weekend and are wondering if we can use US money or should we get pesos. Do all stores and restaurants accept US money.

The best advice I can give you is to read this article http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=4193 that is on this website's news section and then make up your own mind. I still haven't decided what I plan on doing when I go to Coz in February.

They take US dollars everywhere in Cozumel. All the port cities do.

Was just there a few weeks ago, had no problems with us dollars. Ive read its more for purchases over 100 buks.

US dollars...

I suggest that you make sure that the store has US currency to return as change, or you may end up with a pocket full of pesos upon your return.;)

For small purchases feel free to use dollars. For any large purchases (over $100) under new Mexican law the transaction must be in pesos so use a credit card.

 

All port cities do not always take dollars since the change so be prepared. Credit cards are always accepted, and you do not have to worry about the amount that way.

I saw several signs indicating the same thing, cash up $100. Though I think in a lot of cases you could just make several smaller transactions.
