Exchanging champagne in AQ & CC and AmEx Platinum benefits

I never would have expected that, thanks for the tip.

I guess it makes sense though -- since Celebrity tends to raise the prices a bit when they offer things like 1-2-3, you are already "paying" for these things to some degree (not as much as they are worth, of course.)

I have read the terms on the amex platinum details, and there are some fares that are not combinable, some group fares, as an example. But I did combine the PLAT with a 1-2-3 promo just fine whereas a cruise i booked thru a T/A directly who had some group rooms, it was not, and she tried to make it happen.

I just spoke with an AMEX Platinum Travel rep. She stated benefits can be combined, but the travel agent must call on my behalf. FYI, the AMEX Travel Agency Services Desk number is 800.443.7672. I will post an update later.

Any update? Was this in regards to 1-2-3?

I have not heard from the agent and just forwarded the e-mail to the agency owner.

Yes, this is regarding the 1-2-3 promotion.

Here is the e-mail exchange with my agent today:

Agent's Response:

Hello

It "WAS" $300 plus $75 from an additional Celebrity Special.

Amex would not allow you to combine the $75 and $100 AMEX. So you lost the $75 to gain the following.....

$100 AMEX

1 Bottle of Champage

1 Specialty Restaurant

My response:

I think the Celebrity OBC is $375 since I pre-paid grats.

From Agent:

AMEX does send confirmations. Once on board it takes 48 hours for the benefits to hit your stateroom account.

As of today......

$300 OBC from Celebrity

Premium Bar Package

AMEX

$100 OBC

1 bottle of Champagne

1 Specialty Restaurant

Can you email me at ken2048ataoldotcom? I am getting conflicting messages. Is your agent saying the bennies are reduced if you select 1-2-3? We picked the classic bev package for our 1-2-3 bennie. I only had TA provided OBC.

I will send you an e-mail, but here is the history:

--Initially received classic beverage package and grats through 1-2-3 promotion

--Upgraded to premium beverage package and select dining, requiring pre-paid grats

--Received $300 OBC instead of grats during 1-2-3 promotion

--Received additional $75 OBC by paying a double deposit

Per travel agent and AMEX Plat:

--Cannot combine current $100 AMEX OBC with additional $75 mentioned above

--Bottle of champagne

--One specialty dinner

In this case, it is an additional $25 in OBC. However, I have seen some AMEX promotions of up to $300 OBC.

  • 4 weeks later...
California Chandon Brut was the recent sparkling wine provided.

This was my experience also. But the card that came with it listed some other California sparking wine. I don't know if they just ran out and this was a substitute, or if this is the new selection and they didn't update the card yet.

Thanks. Do you happen to remember any of the white or red wines?

I didn't get to choose onboard, my TA asked me if I had wanted Sparkling Wine, Red, or White. If I wanted to change to Red or White, she would have to call Amex back. I decided to stick with the sparkling wine. In the summer I generally prefer whites over reds, and I didn't want to get stuck with an oaky chardonnay, so I figured my best bet was to stick with the sparkling wine.

On Cunard you don't get a choice, and they give you a really oaky chardonnay. It was so oaky I couldn't even drink it.
