Today His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI. consecrated La Sagrada Família, the Expiatory Temple of the Holy Family, in Barcelona. He even elevated it to a Basilica Minor.

 

Many millions of visitors have viewed the construction site over the last years, and I find it quite interesting to see how the building evolved. Maybe twenty years ago there was not much more than a few portals, then towers raised and now the interior is usable. Still the work will continue for an estimated 15 to 20 years.

 

From now on we will no longer visit a mere construction site but a fully consecrated church, a house of worship.

Thanks for this update. I wish I was in Barcelona for the consecration. Now I can look forward to visiting La Sagrada as a place of worship next time we're there. What a difference a century makes!
