The Mate Posted November 11, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 11, 2010 We have cruised out of Philadelphia twice, I believe in '03 and '08 on repositioning cruises with NCL,and I think both RCCL & NCL had ships based in Philly for several years, but no more. Is Philadelphia done/finished as a cruise terminal port?
dolittle Posted November 12, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2010 As of now there are no ships in Phila. An N.C.L. ship was the last to go in sept. Many ships are now in Baltimore it is a easy drive , right under 95 , nice people at port.
Philly Steve Posted November 21, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 21, 2010 American Cruise Lines is the only company cruising out of Philadelphia at this time. The line uses small ships for river cruises.
The Mate Posted November 30, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted November 30, 2010 I wonder if the problem with getting in and out of Philly is that the road bridges are too low?? On the Norwegian Sea, which was a small ship [ maybe 40,000 to 50,000 tons], we were outside as we sailed under a couple of bridges [Wilmington, DE ??] and it seemed like we were within a few feet of 'scraping the paint'. Now with just about all the major cruise lines going to these much larger ships, 100,000+ tons, and doing away with the smaller ships, maybe getting them under the bridges is not a possibility???.
