oysterfiend Posted November 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 13, 2010 Anyone booked on this cruise- 8 nights- I am really tempted but hubby wants us to reduce debt instead- very sensible but not so much fun. Does Pacific Pearl have a laundry?? We know Tasmania really well as my brother lives there but going in a cruise ship is a whole different thing

Does Pacific Pearl have a laundry?? We know Tasmania really well as my brother lives there but going in a cruise ship is a whole different thing I am sure it would be a nice cruise either way! Although, if you have never cruised that channel of water before google it. On our 2008 (dawn) and 2010 (jewel) cruise we had the same captain and both times we were there in a really large group. He recognised my aunty in the dining room and in conversation (quick conversation) of course we asked about the coming weather for the journey home and he said for the most part it will be fine but nothing like a trip to tasmania? Regardless of that, we have been on the spirit of tasmania twice and it was relatively fine so i guess with everything it comes down to the weather - i certainly wouldn't let it stop you. Probably the smart thing to look after finances and when its suitable enjoy yourself - I paid my cruise fare up front this time so I just have to pay for my spending money. Although, i am going to take out travel insurance this week just to be safe... if i can even take it out so far in advance!

It's a good cruise. You get to spend the whole day at the Port Arthur Historical Site, entry is included. The ship anchors in the bay at Port Arthur, and you tender ashore to the jetty within the complex. The evening trip from Port Arthur around to the Derwent River mouth and up the river to berth in Hobart is spectacular. We dined in the La Luna Restauarant that evening and with a window table enjoyed the passage up the river from there. If the weather's right - the scenic cruising of the Freycinet Peninsular (the east coast of Tasmania) is spectacular

Not really interested in Port Arthur prison as been there twice before, Are there other options available?

Not really interested in Port Arthur prison as been there twice before, Are there other options available? Lots of options.... We hired a car in Hobart and drove up Mt Wellington....from sunshine into snow. drove out to Richmond...fantastic historic settlement still had time so we drove out to the Huon Valley. Excellent roads and no traffic hassles. It was also made a lot better due to the fact we had only booked a standard medium sedan, but when we got there they had overbooked , so we had to put up with a brand new Commodore Executive:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yes, if you don't want to go to the Historic site there is a wide range of shore tours offered to other sights and locations in the area. My husband and I did about 15 days about 12 years ago. And 2 nights in Melbourne. We were going to return in 5 years but still haven't. We stayed at the timeshare near Devonport- about 10-20 mins from the airport. I went to Hobart City when I was 20 ish- the year Prince Charles and Diana were married. I think my brother was married the same weekend. I'd probably want to see my brother and his family. They live in Bicheno.

You get in between 7pm and 8pm (depending on the time it takes to get ' around the corner'from Port Arthur) and don't leave again until midnight the following night.
