famke Posted November 15, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2010 We will be in Cherbourg for one day in May. We have visited the D-day beaches on a previous visit to France. What would you suggest for activities to do on your own while in port. I believe we are there from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
june1 Posted November 19, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 19, 2010 I LOVE Mt. St. Michel and would recommend it if you like a unique medieval place. Honfleur and Rouen are also lovely. The sewing of the Bayeux Tapestry was quite an undertaking.
tartanexile81 Posted December 1, 2010 #3 Share Posted December 1, 2010 Would definitely recommend a visit to Bayeux. The tapestry is amazing and the town itself is delightfully French in character. There is a train from Cherbourg to Bayeux - takes about an hour. Happy to give you timetable link if you're interested.
rusticfurnituremaker Posted December 8, 2010 #4 Share Posted December 8, 2010 Google "images Mont St. Michel" and you will see just how beautiful this place is. I would choose that first, and then Honfleur which is also beautiful. Amy

See the current thread on MSM particularly re mobility. Honfleur is a super little place for a laid-back afternoon, but whilst it's just 20 mins from the cruise port at Le Havre, I don't rate it worth the 2-hour trek east from Cherbourg. Bayeux is a simple & direct train journey from Cherbourg. Or if you rent a car, you can combine it with places such as Falaise and the little lanes & villages of the Bocage countryside (google Villers-Bocage), south of Bayeux John Bull
