torontoflo Posted June 19, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 19, 2004 I paid for an unobstructed balcony from CruiseQuick on the Voyager. The room # is 6668 (Deck 6 very aft) and from looking at pictures it looks as if my room is obstructed. Does anyone know or should I call royal caribbean to make sure?? Thanks so much Megan
dougp26364 Posted June 19, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 19, 2004 I don't recall any of the balcony's on VOS as having an obstructed view. If you don't like your assigned cabin, find one that is acceptable and ask them to change your cabin assignment. They'll do it without any problems so long as the cabin you want is available. You can always search RCI's site to see what's out there as well as sites like Travelocity, Expedia and Orbitz. One thing I have learned quickly with Cruisequick is to tell them what cabins are acceptable. I usually shop around to find out what cabins are available, then I give them a list of acceptable cabins in order of preference. So far I haven't had any problems. The one time I didn't do this I was assigned a cabin next to the elevator, which was something I didn't want. I E-mailed them and told them I would prefer one of three other cabins I listed for them and they changed it without any problems. Now, I make sure I tell them EXACTLY what I want. jlajla Posted June 19, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 19, 2004 I'm not certain about that specific room, but I can tell you my experience from Explorer, which is the same class ship. I had read prior to my cruise that the deck 6 cabins had worse views than deck 7 and higher, so I rebooked on deck 7, but my friends in another cabin chose to stay on deck 6. The difference in the balconies was minor, but there was a difference. The deck 6 balconies have less glass to them, and more solid parts. It's hard to explain... but I KNOW that folks on this board have photos of it. I no longer have any... sorry. If you can change, go for it, but you'll have a beautiful view regardless. Enjoy! izzyvet Posted June 19, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 19, 2004 I was in cabin #6668 on the Explorer, if it's of any help. No, the balcony doesn't have as much glass, it's a solid steel barrier and you couln't really see much of the ocean/horizon when sitting. I thought it felt kind of claustrophobic and preferred the balcony I had previously on Deck 9 of the Adventure. I don't think I would book another balcony on deck 6 because of this, not that much more expensive to go up one or two more decks (usually) Izzy NCL Starward 4/92 NCL Wind 12/00 Adventure of the Seas 4/02 Grandeur of the Seas12/02 Explorer of the Seas 5/04 <MARQUEE>Until Carnival Pride: </MARQUEE> Roll Call Pride 10/17 CLICK HERE
serene56 Posted June 20, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 20, 2004 deck 6 aft - here is a picture looking down to deck 6. YOur balcony will sit back on this area. http://joephila.net/cruise/ship13.jpg This is a crew area and you can not go onto this deck. Its about 15-20 feet out before the water. My opinion--if you can go higher do so. cruisinfanatic Posted June 20, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 20, 2004 Serene, that pic is not where their cabin is. Their cabin is aft but on the side. Here is a pic of a beck 6 balcony. Yes there is all steel on the side, but it's not that high. You can still see over it while sitting. negc Posted June 20, 2004 #10 Share Posted June 20, 2004 Jusr had 6664 on Voyager. Bottom half of balcony railing is solid as opposed to plexiglas on decks 7, 8 and 9, Lifeboat covers are below you, but don't obstruct the view. I would ask for a balcony on a higher deck, just to get the plexiglass, as it gives you a better view of the ocean while you are seated.
