Godmother of Allure

Recommended Posts

How long until someone says that they don't like Cameron Diaz or green princesses? ;)

Thanks for the update.

Pretty soon! Personally, I really don't like this choice. Godmothers are supposed to be someone to look up to, someone who has done some amazing things with their life, and someone who embodies charity according to Moi. So Dreamworks "bought" this one. I'm not thrilled with the whole Dreamworks partnership anyhow, think it's kitchy (sp?). Makes sense from a business standpoint, but certainly not from mine! Oh well, to each their own.

On one of the other threads it was said that the Godmother gets a complimentary cruise on her ship annually. Wonder if Cameron Diaz will be the one with the cruise or will she have to wear a Princess Fiona costume all cruise? :D Now that's one way not to be recoginzed, sort of. ;)

Lighten up peeps:).....it's a family cruise line and with the team up with Dreamworks it's actually quite fitting;).....Disney Cruise Line was the first cruise line to have an animated character as the Godmother of a ship. Tinkerbell is the Godmother of the Disney Wonder....and I don't think many were disappointed in that.

Sorry, but I'm entitled to my opinion. I don't think it's that revolutionary because of Disney. If I want Disney (which by far outshines Dreamworks, imho), I'll go on their line. I just hope these characters don't overtake Allure or I'll switch my group cruises to Oasis instead.

And thats the great thing about freedom of choice:)

It seems like smart marketing to me. Disney is about to launch their fabulous new ship Dream and a sister ship to that in 2012. Royal has to really step it up to keep the family cruisers on Allure and Oasis. Having Princess Fiona as Godmother and Shrek characters on board will go a long way toward keeping kids on Royal.

I suggest that you look at some of the other Godmothers chosen in recent years and tell me what amazing things they have done in their life.

NCL has chosen Brooke Burke, Kim Cattrell and Melaina Trump as Godmothers. Two actresses and the wife of a man with a bad hairstyle.

Princess - Marion Ross and Florence Henderson. Richie Cunninghams mom and the Brady mom turned Wesson Oil pusher.

Carnival Cruise Lines - Mira Sorvino and Judu Dench. Both from the movies. Also Katie Couric and Paula Zahn.

Disney - Tinker Bell.

MSC - Sophia Loren

When it's all said and done, you could ask each and every person boarding the Allure and 90% will tell you that they have no idea of who/what the Godmother is nor will they care.

Oasis will have the same Dreamwork experinence in a few months along with the Freedom and Liberty OTS.;)

I said this on another thread but by next week no one will care that Princess Fiona is the Allure's godmother. I also think using her as the godmother of the ship can be their advantage when they have character parades and such by saying something like "Introducing the Allure of the Seas godmother, Princess Fiona". At first I didn't like the idea of an animated character as the godmother but personally it might be for the better. Besides, its what's onboard the ship that's going to attract me to sail on it not who the godmother is.

Well at least all of us who sail on Allure can say the Godmother sailed with them:D

Innovative choice just like RCI ships especially the Oasis class are:)

Good thought Emmy!

Didn't Richard Fain say something like "This Godmother type is a first for the cruise industry?" (Or something along those lines?)

While we really don't care who the Godmother is of any ship, we did think this was an odd choice. We would have much preferred a "live" person. Even though Mr. Ski has met Cameron Diaz...he wasn't thrilled with this choice either...Princess Fiona. Now if it had been Cameron Diaz he would have swam out to the ship tonight. LOL

I have seen people get worked up over some crazy things here on CC, but I think this tops it. :)

I agree. Ask these same people who the Godmothers were of every other ship that they have cruised. Bet 95% would not be able to answer. I can't even remember who the seven are from the Oasis and don't really care to go and look it up.:)

The Godmother is Princess Fiona.

Bad choice IMO. RCL is not just for kids and either is Allure, if it was why even try to cater to the adults with central park, solarium, casino, ect. Think about it this way... more people will be disapointed with the whole godmother thing then those that are happy/excited about it. What will happen if/when the dreamworks partnership disolves? Kinda hard for something like that to happen with disney since Tinkerbell is apart of their brand, dreamworks is not apart of the RCL brand.

Oh well, its not a huge deal. However, having just gotten off the Allure, i was kinda put off by how much they tried to push the dreamworks thing on us. Always making anouncements about the parade or iceshow and the 3D movie. But again, we'll see how this whole thing works out once its been running on revenue cruises. Hopefully it wont get in the way from the folks that go on vacation to be away from kids instead of always around them.

Time will tell.

If that is ones purpose to vacation then Oasis and Allure are not the ships to cruise. It's that simple. Anyone paying attention should know that these two ships are being marketed to families first.

Just cuz i dont want kids doesnt mean i should be subject to Holland America, Princess, or Celebrity. I enjoy the activites and atomosphere that RCL has to offer. They are marketing all 4 of the biggest ships that sail from the US to caribbean for families. Fine thats understandable since families spend big $$ on vacation (i'm a TA i'm very aware of that), but the ship has more then enough space to keep the activities seperate without having to be bombarded with it all the time (ie Dreamworks on Allure) The families have thier adventure ocean, pool deck, and boardwalk. Adults have the solarium, central park, and the entertainment place. the RP can be common ground, no big deal. I would like them to just calm down about this whole dreamworks thing, thats all im saying.

I dont think that a majority of familys would choose RCL over Disney just because Dreamworks is on board. They are choosing it because of everything else the ship has to offer, not cuz shrek will be on board. If i'm trying to close a sale with a family me telling them "you can see shrek on board and Fiona is the godmother" will not seal the deal with them. It will be "you have a rockwall, flowrider, put-put, iceskating, ect ect ect" that is what will sell the cruise (and has many times in the past)

Simple answer....thats who is paying for the kids...and happy kids = happy parents;)...BUT....you have to also have something to attract those parents and keep them entertained....and thats exactly what they have done.
