Jewel Alert...Robo Calls...Dec.5th Sailing now Dec.6th

Sure it's nice that NCL is offering accommodations in NYC overnight but when they found out that friends of mine were "locals" (they live in PA, outside of Philly...and hour and a half away) they asked them to go home and come back tomorrow. I think that's insane. They didn't do it though, they fought to stay and won. Especially since they are traveling with their two young children.

My friends never received a robo-call and aren't on Cruise Critic. Unfortunately, I haven't been on in a while either or I would have told them.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of what happened before, Norwegian Jewel is definitely on her way to New York.

The attached PDF is a live-ish plot of her position. She is the blue ship east of Provincetown with her track showing on the plot. At the plot time (about three minutes ago), she was making 21.7 knots.

Here's a link. I tried it several times before I was able to connect. The chart is in .pdf so you can save a copy. It's page 10 of the file (or page 4 of the report).

Thanks all. These two files together are great to help understand the timing and mileage required.

F.Y.I. This is a good link that shows ship positions. The Jewel is off the south east coast of Long Island at 21 knots. I hope all that sail on her have a good time. For those that cancel....I wish you all well. This one sux no matter how you cut it. http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/ :( (passenger ships in dark blue)

So it looks like we could have left earlier today AND kept the Nassau port!

Thanks again for the link.

I'm really upset we wont be able to buy any "crap" at the straw market..... sorry to those who really wanted Nassau.

Not for nothing, depending on the speed and sailing conditions our itinerary can be changed on the fly maybe for the better..

I have to stock up my supply of water baloons..

It would have been nice to get there on Friday when there's the

AUTHENTICALLY BAHAMIAN CHRISTMAS CRAFT FESTIVAL

December 03, 2010 - December 18, 2010

Family fun featuring: A Christmas Manger with live animals, Santa, Entertainment, Authentically Bahamian Arts & Craft, Pompey Museum Exhibit & More. This PLUS buying crap at the straw market would have been just too exciting!

It seems that most of us prefer Nassau to gsc. Our shore excursions, all cancelled (I would guess since we won't be in port canaveral long enough to have ours).

The deliberate lack of communication from ncl was the biggest problem, such as posting on here but not mentioning who would or would not be sent home at the pier by a non ncl rep.

Another thought I have this morning is that the ncl brainiac who came up with the original boarding time of Monday morning at 8:00 in new york city without regard for those in pa and ct made one of the worst decisions of all. Due to the distance and traffic patterns in the Lincoln tunnel, a 10:00 am boarding time would have relieved much for those of us in the 2-3 hour driving range.

We are really leaning away from future ncl cruises but we will see how the rest of the week is handled. I can't imagine that they are going to pound their $250 cruise rewards program as usual, since we personally do not feel that we were treated in a manner conducive to wanting our repeat business.

We are still looking forward to our trip and will enjoy it but can't help but think it could be our last with ncl.

I can see the live web cam tho. :)

No worries she'll be there and SpongeBob will be too. :)

Such a great point. The crew is already losing 1/7 of their income this week and they shouldn't have to lose more than that. They are likely to have to deal with some rather cranky passengers to boot!

I agree about the lost income for the crew, and NCL should make up that difference. The passengers can't fix that. As far as other onboard income is concerned, I wonder how many people would be willing to leave their rum runners home and contribute to both the line and the crew that way.

You know... you're always stirring up trouble around here. You attacked me two weeks ago on here. If you don't have any positive comments to say why don't you get off Cruise Critic?

The crew had nothing to do with the ship's delay and what is there to get by doing what you say is you're punishing them for no reason. NCL corporate is not the faces you see onboard and taking so many trips back and forth to the island only serves to make the crew work harder and for what? You will not tip them extra and neither are the people who are hair brained enough to follow what you say to do.

NCL corporate and the crew are two separate components. The issue most have is with the compensation and the itinerary. That's ALL decided by corporate. People on this sailing should not go onboard and take it out on the crew who had no control over any of this.

the crew will still get their auto tips.....and since it is not required to tip again in the specialty restaurants..nothing will change for the crew there..right? Only NCL will lose out on the cover charges....and the drinker servers will do less business

Also, the casino only makes money for NCL, right? How does the crew benefit there? Only the drink servers will do less business here as well.

So...the way I see it...the only ones hurt buy what that poster suggests would be the drink servers, right?

I am sure I missed something here....but the poster's suggestions really only will hurt NCL..not the stewards or the waiters....and yes, the drink servers will be hurt...but you know as well as I do that everyone will imbibe to the usual massive extent...and gamble 24/7, right? So suggesting that they cut back is a joke anyway.

NCL will also lose out as well..not the crew...by having to cancel their excursions.....I am sure they will make up for the lost revenue somehow...or maybe...just maybe...they will have to run this cruise at a loss....I show that same show on CNBC.

Just sayin':)

Ok...the stewards will get one less day of auto tip...because it is a 6 day cruise not 7...but you know as well as I do...that most pax tip extra anyway...and I am sure the stewards will overly compensate by way of niceness and "befriending:rolleyes:"every pax so as to get a little extra.

We tip extra..btw...but don't need to be cajoled by anyone to do that.

I can see the Jewel from my Coney Island balcony. It will be under the Verrazano in 15 minutes. It is now 9:53am.

It is freezing and flurrying up here in Westchester.....I can't imagine how pleasant this embarkation will turn out!!

Have a great time all you Jewel cruisers...we will be on her at Easter.:)

Was you itinerary changed at all? I don't see these two situations as the same unless they ended up canceling one or more of your ports.

Now the one place where I say Carnival majorly failed in your situation was in not having food and drinks available while you waited 5 hours to get on the ship.

Ann,

they did change the itinerary. This was an 8 day to Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and Tortolla. In changing the itinerary I mean that we arrived in Puerto Rico at something like 6 or 7 in the evening and left 3 hours later. They told us they would keep us at St. Thomas longer as a trade off.

We had a wonderful cruise (it was our 2nd cruise). And I will say to everyone who is saying NCL was VERY lax in contacting passengers that CCL contacted us directly (we use a TA). They called my home at 9 PM on a Sunday night to say the ship was delayed, please call them. When we got home around 11 (we were at a wedding) I called them and they told us what was up. When I called my TA the next morning as soon as her office opened, she had no messages from CCL saying what was going on.

What I wanted from them was 1/8th of the cruise fare since we missed one whole day and they didn't give it to us. This was a July sailing (when fares are their highest)

They also had 24 hours notice of the ship being late. You would have thought that gave them enough time to get some bottled water on ice for those of us waiting in that darn hot pier building. My hubby was walking on a broken foot (he said no way I'm cancelling for this foot) and I couldn't get any assistance (I didn't know back then about calling and saying you needed help).

I'm also not begrudging those here on the board who are ticked off. It sucks when you're vacation plans gets screwed up. NCL should have been much more diligent in contacting passengers. If they have also made an offer to refund your cruise fare then you have to decide what it the better solution for you: get your money back and schedule another cruise or take their incentives and go with the flow knowing you may only be stopping at one port. For us, we'd love to have a cruise that is all sea days but for others they REALLY want to see land.

RICH - my condolences and way to go NCL for seeing your post and getting you back on the cruise. Enjoy yourself.

Kathy

Mrs. H, go to ncl.com then click on ships, jewel then scroll down to view webcam. I just checked her, she's almost at the pier.

Have a great cruise everyone!!! Hope they give you all some free cocktails!!
