My wife and I are cruising the Caribbean over New Year’s Eave and would like to know what the smoking rules are on Princess? Can anyone explain the rules to me.

In cabins and balconies, in the Casino except for smoke-free nights, and in certain areas on the ship. There are now only a few places one can smoke. On the Lido on one side of the ship. Not sure of any others.

People can smoke in their staterooms/balconies, and in the casino and attached cigar bar. Princess asks that you not smoke in the stateroom, as a consideration to future passengers, but it is not prohibited.

 

I detest smoke smell (generally enough to keep me out of the casino, even on non-smoking nights), but I have never had a problem with a princess stateroom smelling of smoke. On my last cruise, there was someone down the hall that was clearly smoking indoors. We walked by a few times and the whole segment of the hallway that shared its airhandler smelled like an ashtray. I would have been very upset if my room was in that area.

Yes you can smoke in your cabin or on your balcony. Casino and cigar bar and on some ships there is a small area in Skywalkers lounge. Outside smoking areas are port side of promenade deck, port side of Neptune pool and Mermaids Tail bar. Also aft Terrace pool by Outriggers bar on the port side.

I want to emphasize also as some others have that Princess discourages smoking inside cabins (although not outright banned). In addition, they request that balcony smokers be considerate of neighbors.

 

We were on RUBY just last week and I noticed the least amount of smoke compared to all prior cruises. Only in the casino on smoke nights - that was pretty much it, except for the occassional on Lido (port side only).

But as Jeff reports, Princess encourages you to be courteous to your neighbors if you smoke on your balcony and considerate of future guests if you smoke in your cabin. Eventually Princess will catch up to Celebrity and ban smoking in cabins and on balconies.

 

I hope not,one of the reasons why I chose Princess and didnt even look at Celebrity is because of the smoking policies of each line,if Princess catches up with Celebrity then they will lose my custom for sure

if cruise lines are going to allow smoking in staterooms they really need to establish non smoking decks of rooms the way hotels do. i respect the right of smokers but nothing upsets me more then being next to a room and balcony with a smoker. cruise ships are basically confined spaces and smoke has no respect for neighbors. it goes thru duct work to other rooms and across to other balconys.as a non smoker my best cruise experience was on celebrity because of its smoking policy.

Not a doubt in my mind that change is coming. It's just a matter of when. If HAL makes THE change before Princess, then HAL will gain my business and Princess will become the smokers' line of choice. I'm pulling for Princess to be more progressive than HAL though:D!

Like in the "old days" of flying :rolleyes: smoking & non smoking was really a joke! Eventually I think cruise ships will go to non smoking as our local restaurants etc have done. I remember smoking in grocery stores inon and on the early 1970's, hospitals, movies...times change for good reason

Since I am an advocate of non-smoking, I hope Princess follows Celebrity and becomes a non-smoking environment.

This may have been true in the "old days". With 80% of Americans being non-smokers, I think we have proven that we can still drink and gamble without the smoke!;)
