Sea Princess Casino?

During our Alaska cruise in August we noted that the casino on the Sea Princess was in a terrible state of disrepair. The space that it once occupied had been split between a poorly appointed sitting area, so to speak, and a half casino with only old, “pre-war”, slots that dispensed only nickels or tokens.

This Casino area was not re-worked during the 2009 dry docking in S.F. We were told that the casino operation and several other areas were scheduled to be updated later in 2010. I hope that is the case because otherwise it is a nice ship but we are holding off booking the Sea Princess again to Alaska because of the disrepair not only in this area but other public areas of the ship.

From reports I have read lately, the casino has not changed yet. It has been set up this way for many years since the cruises were targeted to those living in the UK who are not big gamblers. We have sailed on the sea several times over the last 5 or 6 years, and the half of a casino was widely known, even before those dates.

My guess, is when the Sea goes down under to Australia, that is probably when the casino and other things will be updated. Although I am not sure when it is due to leave to sail south.

Sorry to say our group didn't research the casino issue either. my group will be doing alaska in may they are not the type to hang out by the pool . I am sure it will be to cold anyway. we haven't made finally payment yet so they are looking at the other ships that depart from sf the other ships seem a little to pricey just to have a decent casino. This will be r frist trip with princess I feel we will still have a great time just need to convince the others

Hmmmm... we sailed on the Sea Princess in July and I thought the ship was in great shape despite her age. I confess that I didn't give the casino more than a passing glance, but I thought the slot machines used the cruise cards instead of coins... Also, the casino is smaller than other Sun-class ships because the ship caters to the Brits during her Caribbean season. When we were on the Dawn Princess, the casino encompassed the entire space.

Just got back from the Sea Princess a couple of weeks ago. The ship was in impressive condition. About the only sign of wear I saw was on the elevator "door close" buttons. Being British, I didn't go into the casino though, so I can't comment on that.

Maybe Brits don't bother because gambling is legal everywhere in the UK, so a casino is no big deal.

The casino does use the cruise card and does not dispense coins. The slots are not "pre" any war other than possibly Desert Storm. I will agree that the selection is very limited and certainly not modern.

I don't believe going "Down Under" would improve the quality/ quanity of the slots. Actually a couple of the other ships that went that way had their casino, including slot machines, decrease in size. It looks like we are the ones that like the bigger casinos. I know that I do:D

Sounds like Princess and their sub-contractor, Ocean Player Club has upgraded to the Cruise Card system and removed the nickels and tokens we saw in August. This is much better and a-lot more sanitary! Even sounds like a few new slots may have been installed.

We agree with those that noted that much of the ship is in great shape for her years.

Look forward to booking on the Sea Princess again in the future.

When the old Ocean and Sea Princess were transfered to P&O, this was one of the changes made. Once the Sea Princess was tansfered back, the casino was left as is, because it caters mostly to the Brits.

Brits do gamble just as much as Americans they just gamble differently.

Americans tend to gamble a lot more on slots and craps and Brits tend to be more blackjack and roulette players.

craps is not a popular game in UK casinos, there are very few tables outside of London.

until about 5 years ago UK casinos were limited to 4 slots max now they are allowed a lot more.

i worked as a croupier and supervisor for 18 years including 2 years at the Princess in Freeport and was shocked when i first went there that the casino though 10 times the size of the 1 that i had worked in the UK had less roulette tables.i was told that the roulette was too complicated for Americans.yet i find craps complicated
