Rare TLCOhio Posted December 18, 2010 #1 Share Posted December 18, 2010 From the New York Times travel section to come out tomorrow, they have this headlined story: "Barcelona’s Other Architect, Domènech" with these highlights: "It's sometimes hard to have a conversation about Barcelona that does not include the name Gaudí in it. The world is so gaga for Antoní Gaudí — the genius of Catalan modernisme (the Spanish version of Art Nouveau) whose early 20th-century buildings are virtual emblems of the city — that most of his modernista contemporaries go little noticed by tourists. But if you’re like me, and don’t much like the structural theatrics and unbridled mannerism of Gaudí’s buildings, check out those of Lluís Domènech i Montaner (1849-1923), an under-sung hero of the movement." For those visiting Barcelona, much is about the architecture, along with great food, being seaside, interesting people and history, etc. This lengthy story also has a multi-media visual sampling for this architect and the various designs from this era. If you're planning (as we are) a 2011 cruise out of or to Barcelona, it is worth reading up on these architectural aspects for this unique city. Below are a few of my pictures from our last visit to this wonderful city. Full story at: http://travel.nytimes.com/2010/12/19/travel/19cultured-barcelona.html?ref=travel THANKS! Enjoy!
