butterflytiger Posted January 3, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2011 We are going on Oceana in May around the Med and as I like the sun I would like to know other peoples experiences at this time.:)
jeanlyon Posted January 4, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 4, 2011 I have been in the Med in May quite often. Sometimes it's wonderful and hot and others it's rainy and cool. There's no answer I'm afraid.
radsailor Posted January 4, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 4, 2011 For the most part you will have cool mornings and evenings. Agree with jeanlyon that some days will be warmer than others. We did Turkey, Italy and Greece last May. In Athens it was overcast and cool, but in Turkey it was a lot warmer. Some days on the back of the ship we could sit in the late afternoons with no jacket and some days we needed a jacket.
annieuk Posted January 5, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 5, 2011 Two years ago we did a Med. cruise from Southampton starting on 10th May. The weather in the Western Med. was cloudy and it rained while we were in Palma, Majorca. When we got across to Rhodes it was hot and sunny . We were, however, unable to dock in Piraeus, for Athens as the weather was so windy it would have been unsafe to try to enter the harbour. Then in Sicily it was hot and sunny again. On the return journey it was mostly dry but windy. In Lisbon, it was fairly sunny and warm but in Vigo it poured with rain again. So, it's very unpredictable. You may be lucky but I would go prepared.
cruiseluvva Posted January 5, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2011 The only time we have been at that time of year it was glorious during the day but evenings were cold. Think layers and a light raincoat and you shouldn't go far wrong. Have a good time.
LibraLass41 Posted January 5, 2011 #6 Share Posted January 5, 2011 We always cruise in May as we go for our Wedding Anniversary, as I remember we had good weather in the Med, but not very hot, it was mid-high 70's in old money lol. But, who knows,, a bit like our summers you should get some nice hot days, but prepared for cloudy days too, especially to and from Southampton. southwinds Posted January 8, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 8, 2011 We often go in May .. it can be chilly the first and last days..out on deck. But once in the Med it soon warms up. The advantage it that for sight seeing its never TOO hot... but hot and sunny enough to enjoy everywhere. If you are real sun worshippers and sun bathing is a real must do then maybe it could be a bit cool some days for you. We have had hot days and cool days but funny enough its been rare for us to have rain in May in the med...
