Yes, tips are automatically added to your onboard account unless you instruct them to do otherwise. All passengers are charged the same amount, $10-11 per person per day, I believe. And no, you won't need a voltage converter although you may want to bring a power strip if you have alot to plug in since outlets are few.

Hello, Just about to go on a Caribbean Cruise with Costa. Are tips automatically added to your onboard account each day? Any idea how much for a balcony room?

Do we need electricity converters for our american electronics??

Thanks!

As stated previously tips are added to your account each day it was 6euros pppd. You can look at your account on your TV at any time. You can also get a printout of you bill at anytime.

You do not have the option of witholding this payment. If you wish to tip other people that is on top of the compulsary payment and at your discretion.

As an American you DO have the option of removing the "tip" from your bill. It is my understanding that ONLY Americans can do this, because of our tipping customs on American cruise lines.

However, Costa's "tip' charge is not very high.

Americans (at least sailing in the Caribbean) have the right to have the automatic tips (service charge) removed, Europeans cannot and Australians have to pay the service charge with their final invoice.

The follow is taken fomr Costa USA Web site:

Tipping is a personal matter, and your own judgment is the best guide. For your convenience, Costa will automatically debit your onboard account a modest service charge per person per day. Should you wish to change the amount, contact the Guest Relations Desk. Bartenders, servers, deck stewards and other staff may be tipped as service is received. For your convenience, a 15% gratuity is added to beverage purchases automatically.

Service Charges

Caribbean sailings departing from the U.S.:

$11.00 US per adult per day.The applicable service charge for teens between the ages of 14 and 17 will be $5.50 per person per day.

Caribbean sailings departing from non-U.S. ports:

Euro 7.00 per adult per day for cruises up to 8 nights; Euro 6.00 per adult per day on longer cruises. The applicable service charge for teens between the ages of 14 and 17 will be 50% of these amounts; there will be no service charge for children under the age of 14.

Ron,

Americans may also have their tips removed on Trans-Atlantic and Europe cruises.

It must be a mess for them to try and keep track of all the different rules!
