Disembarkation in New Orleans

It's walking distance from the French Quarter. When we were there, there was a set fare by taxi to the airport. That was 2 yrs ago and fare was $28.00.

(We were on the Carnival Conquest that when there when Galveston was destroyed by the hurricane.)

The cruise terminal is downtown, by the mall, close to Harrah's casino. I would say you SHOULD be able to make the flight, just keep in mind that is if everything goes as planned. The ship could always be late getting into port, there could be delays with them being allowed to let pax disembark, etc, etc. I don't even think you would need to do self disembarkation to make it, just make sure you are in the first scheduled group to disembark, if you don't want to carry your own luggage off. You can get the tags to do this the last full day of the cruise. I really feel it is a fairly safe bet that you will make the flight, but again, just know there is a possibility of delays. 8-)

Volleyballmom87 this seems to be a popular question. If you are looking at a direct flight I know which one you are referring to. We will be on the Spirit the February 13th to 20th sailing and have this flight booked. I do know that a resent medical emergency on the ship made it get in late this would of made it difficult if not missed. The direct flight and cost saving over other flights made it attractive to us. If missed and all else fails you can rent a car and be home before morning also played into our decision. If you are someone that would worry the whole cruise I wouldn’t do it but if you are someone that rolls with punches it would work. If we have any issues we will post them.

Oh and yes we are from the KC area.

Just have a plan B...just in case. If something does happen delaying you, roll with it and don't let it ruin your trip. When we arrived on the Spirit last April, a security event had occured somewhere. Each and every passenger off the Spirit had to have their passport individually scanned and then wait for a computer check. We had a scheduled 9 am exit from the ship. Our 9 am color luggage tag was not called to exit until 10:45 and didn't get through customs and onto the street until noon. It can happen. Not likely, but be prepared.

This comes up every 10-14 days.

Seems that the common response is that 90% of the time, you can self disembark and be out the terminal before 9am. Then there are the few times that there are staffing problems and it could be mid to late morning. No idea what will happen YOUR week.

The cruise line says it is never good to book a departure flight from any port before noon. We always hang out at the airport and check out the shops. I've always wanted to do one of those excursions after you leave the ship. I've never understood what the hurry is to get home; like the people in a rush to get to work in the morning? I still catch up to them at the red light.

Enjoy your cruise everyone. Life is too short.

In many cases the best flight options may require certain flights. Not every city has nonstop well timed flights.

I will agree, some people are too much in a hurry to end the trip sometimes.

If you can get a flight for the same or similar price that departs after noon I would shoot for it, but 11:30 is pretty close to noon. You should be ok. I will add, we never plan on flights leaving before noon, however, normally we could have made one as early as 11am.

We'll be retunring to NOLA on the Triumph on 4/30. We're driving down from WI, but my wife and daughter may end up flying home, since my daughter's getting confirmed at church the next day. So if we're planning a flight out of NOLA, it seems like we could be safe to plan on as early as 11:00/11:30? I know that's cutting it close based upon our past experiences, but we normally drive and so we don't worry too much about getting off the ship quick and starting the long drive home.

I guess our plan B will just be to have them ride home with the rest of the family and still arrive back in WI (hopefully) in plenty of time for the church service on Sunday...but they haven't even set the time for that yet!

Any advice would be appreciated, as I know my wife will be anxious to book the flights, if that's a route we should go.

Okay...I'm never in a hurry to get home & out of vacation mode...its just that my nearest major airport is DALLAS...and it's another 3 hour drive home once I get OUT of Dallas, which could take another hour depending on traffic. I'm sure I'm not alone. If I fly, I hurry up to wait. If I drive to port...no worries & dawdle all day.
