momof4girls Posted January 13, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2011 I was just wondering what is the strongest drink you can buy, that makes your dollar go far? I'm usually a Margarita kind of girl, but out of the last ten Margaritas I've had, only ONE of them was worth the money. The rest just tasted like over-sweetened lemonade. :(:o Even my 14-year-old dd (who had a TEENY TINY sip) couldn't taste anything other than the mix (and she thought it was too sweet). So I'm a bit shy about paying over $9 for a wear drink.
Mrs.C05 Posted January 13, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2011 Honestly, I'd say the Long Island Iced Tea's but I'm not a fan of regular Tea anyways. So, I'd rather pay for an extra shot of Rum in my Bahama Mama's.....or make them as strong as I want in my room with my BV bottle.
bobmal99 Posted January 13, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2011 Depends on your bartender. Last month on the Dawn, was like $6.89 for a Captain & Coke, grautity included. I always gave them an extra tip of a couple of dollars cash for each drink. Each drink also got stronger as I tipped.. Like I said depends on the bartender and/or waitress... nanuak Posted January 13, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 13, 2011 I also think the Long Island Ice Tea is the strongest drink on-board. Like others have said, use the same bartender(s) throughout your cruise, and if you tip well, your drinks will be mighty strong :D.
bobmal99 Posted January 13, 2011 #6 Share Posted January 13, 2011 For pure alcohol a Frozen Mud Slide is the best drink for booze. Kauluha, Vodka & Bailey's are in a Frozen Mud Slide!!
SMSACE6 Posted January 13, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 13, 2011 I would also say that the Long Island Ice Tea is worth the price if you are looking for a "jolt"! I recently tried them for the first time on my Freedom cruise last September, and I must say that they did pack a "punch". That means for me....one only, or get one as a nightcap and bring it back to the stateroom! I also found the Funship special, the DOD on the day of departure, to be quite potent. I can manage two of those.:D
NYGoose82 Posted January 13, 2011 #8 Share Posted January 13, 2011 I had a couple of whiskey sours for about $5 or $6 each and they were super strong. We also had a rusty nail which was about $5 and that was a knock you on the butt type drink. It's really strong though because it's Scotch and Drambuie. :p

That sounds heavenly but makes me think I wouldn't be able to have any dessert on those days! ;) Good to know about the "tipping". I'm usually pretty generous so I'll just continue the "habit". Chowder_17 Posted January 13, 2011 #11 Share Posted January 13, 2011 I'd second that! The Long Island is strong with almost all booze and just a bit of mixer. I'm going to have to agree with that! 5 liquors and only a little bit of sweet/sour mix and coke.

This one definitely makes dh happy! ;) Making note of this for our family cruise next summer. Ummm...I just realized I've never had a Long Island Iced tea.:o Surely they can't taste bad? elcuchio24 Posted January 13, 2011 #14 Share Posted January 13, 2011 Seems my dry martini's are pretty high on the old alcohol content. Got to love alcohol mixed with.....alcohol.

They're delicious! Also, keep an eye on the Fun Times..some days when you order a Carnival Classic cocktail (LIIT, Mai Tai, etc) you get a $5 match play coupon in the casino for each drink purchased. I'am already buying the drink..and I gamble so it works well for me.
TeacherCruiser09 Posted January 13, 2011 #17 Share Posted January 13, 2011 I second and third the "find your bartender" kick. Two years ago I was on a cruise and we always went to the same bar. The bartender knew us by name, and knew that the tab always went on "mama's card." He made our drinks strong for us and even saved the last of the fresh mint leaves to make my dinner mojito for me....

momof4girls Posted January 13, 2011 Author #20 Share Posted January 13, 2011 Never had a LIIT? Have you been living in a convent of some kind? Treat yourself, live a little! Try a 4 horseman shot while you're at it! LOL!! Not even close. ;) But I had my first dd when I was 21, so my "party days" were very short lived. :o (I only say that because my sister who frequented clubs at that age used to drink them all the time.) I'm usually a Margarita or Sangria type of girl. Since I'm going on this cruise with just my BFF, however, I'd like to "live a little".
erwinner Posted January 13, 2011 #21 Share Posted January 13, 2011 It's amazing that LIITs taste so good considering how close to straight booze they are! Everyone should try one at some point. And I mean ONE!

dan40 Posted January 13, 2011 #23 Share Posted January 13, 2011 I go the extra dollar route. I deal with the bartender, not a waiter. I tip an extra buck on top of the 15% added. Almost always the drinks do get stronger. While LI iced tea may have the most booze, you still have to drink the disgusting thing.:D:eek: I'll stick with the island rum, tropical, libations.:)
dcedar Posted January 13, 2011 #24 Share Posted January 13, 2011 If the Long Island is made correctly it will taste just like Nestea or some other powdered iced tea with lemon. If they are not made correct they can be pretty bad. However, it still has the most alcohol so if it is made bad just chase it with something like a beer:)
DoubleDown Posted January 13, 2011 #25 Share Posted January 13, 2011 last year on the destiny i asked our server on the lido deck the same question... he brought me something called a "blue-motherf*cker." i don't know it was... it wasn't very good... but very very strong! he said there was a childrens' version called a "blue motorcycle," or something like that.
