Oasis, The Chef's Table with a 3 and 6 year old.

Perhaps a vacation at an adults only all inclusive resort would be a better fit for you than a cruise that welcomes guests of all ages. I don't say this to be mean, but if you don't like being around kids, you shouldn't be somewhere they are welcomed. Of course, venues with age limits are an exception. But the ship in general and the main dining room there shouldn't be any restrictions!

Spot on! This forum is starting to sound like the Holland America board. I can somewhat understand not wanting to be around unruly children at $75pp (although I would argue that there's no age limit on misbehavior, as I experienced), but the MDR? They market this cruiseline to families, people!

How is it advertised as an adult dinner?! Do you see that anywhere in this description?

Chef's Table

Experience our most intimate and decadent onboard dining at Chef's Table. In this exclusive space, 14 guests will enjoy a specially-prepared menu of gourmet selections, chosen by the evening’s featured chef, who will personally present each course. Before the wine-paired meal, guests have the opportunity to meet and mingle at a cocktail party.

While it may not be advertised, I think people have to use common sense when it comes to choosing activities for their children. There are plenty of activities and venues onboard for children and young famillies, the Chef's Table is not one of them.

OP - I'm glad the children didn't ruin your evening. Had I been there I would have said something to the Maitre 'D. I wouldn't be nasty, I'd have just politely pointed out that I was disappointed as I was under the impression this was an adults only dinner.

As for the poster who made the comment about children brining joy to your life. Children don't bring joy to everyones life. We're all different. Just because you may enjoy spending $75pp on a dinner and dining with children, doesn't mean others feel the same.

Cruising offers so much more than a land vacation could ever offer. My only request when I'm cruising is for the cruise line to adhere to the age restrictions for venues that are supposed to be adults only. I don't mind kids being on a cruise ship. In fact, I love to watch the kids having fun, love to see the little ones parading around as pirates and enjoy the fact that many of those kids will be future adult cruisers of America. Happy kids are the cruise line's future customers.

As for the MDR...DH and I do only Freestyle dining on NCL ships or MTD on RCCL ships. We have done traditional dining a few times and realize we much prefer not dining with strangers. Dining with strangers is like a box of chocolates...you never know what you are going to get.

I will reiterate...I do not want kids in the adults only venues on a ship. I don't go to the kids clubs and ruin their good time so I don't expect kids to be allowed in adult's only venues. Fair enough, isn't it?

If it states somewhere clearly that no one under a certain age is permitted then I 100% agree that the kids should not be in there. However, it seems that there is some discrepancy as to whether this is a rule or rumour. Having said that, we are cruising with our two for the first time soon. We have gone alone. We have asked for a table for 4 or if not available, to be seated with another family. I know that if I were on an adults only I would appreciate no kids at my table. But they are also (as you agreed) 100% entitled to a wonderful family vacation and we are all lucky to be able to give them this.

Here is a copy of the email that I received confirming our reservation;

Good Day Mr. and Mrs. XXXX,

I apologize for the delay.

We have made reservations for a party of 3 at the Chef's Table for January

9, 2011, for booking number XXX, XX, XXX, and XXX YYY, per

your request. I have used the spellings within the reservations.

Reservations are for 7:30 PM and dinner is approximately 2 ½ hours long.

Dress is smart casual except on formal nights where formal attire is also

appropriate. Charges will be made to your Seapass Account once you are

onboard. Cost is $75.00 per person and includes gratuities, guests must be

21, and penalty for cancellations within 24 hours is $25.00 per person.

The Chef’s Table is located on the upper level of the Concierge lounge. Due

to the size of the venue all requests and confirmations are handled

manually. Please let this act as your only confirmation. I hope you enjoy a

fabulous evening hosted by an Oasis of the Seas Chef.

Regards,

Rob McGregor

Wow what an idiotic thing to say! Kind of embarrassed to notice you're Canadian.

You have missed the whole point of this thread"no one under 21 is allowed in THE CHEFS TABLE".

How soon will it be before the little darlings will be under foot in the casino?

Your comment reminds me of a comedy show that we attended on the Infinity. The show was a midnight and for an over 18 audience. During the introduction the CD said, "I see that there are some children here under the age of 18. (there were) So now its time for you all to leave and go back to the casino, where you also do not belong". It got a good laugh because there was truth to the statement.

I cannot understand why anyone would take small kids on any cruise. It is no holiday for the little ones or Mum and Dad, and as this post shows folks will be unhappy with children in certain venues.

Take the little darlings to Disneyland or let Granma and Grampa spoil them for a week.Thats what my family does.

Of course it's a holiday, for both the kids and the parents. We take our daughter on most of our cruises, although we have done a few without her as well. We have a wonderful time in both cases. She loves it and is always looking forward to them. Loves going to dinner, the shows, the activities and going to different ports. We don't take her to the specialty restaurants (to be honest, we don't go when it is just us either, we are perfectly fine in the MDR), or any of the adult shows. If there happens to be something we want to do that is not appropriate for her, she can go to the Kids clubs, which she enjoys. Most of the time she is with us anyway.

However, I do believe that there should be areas on the ship that are for adults only. A pool and whirlpool area, a sun deck, and a fine restaurant are a good area to have set aside for adults only. The ship is big enough, with enough events and areas, that a few set aside, and enforced, adult areas are things that should be provided.

I have to say that the Oasis was very good at making the Solarium off limits to anyone under 16. I saw two teens, who did happen to be over 16, asked their ages and they were just sitting on loungers.

Why? He stated his opinion. What's wrong with that? Nobody is suggesting that you have to agree. BTW I'm a Canadian too and not the least bit embarrassed.

Aside from that, the whole point of this thread wasn't to get into a debate on whether children should or should not cruise. Correct me if I'm wrong but the original question was whether you'd be upset at children being at the Chef's Table when it seems obvious that it was advertised as an adult venue. I for one would be furious after spending the amount of money that's required. RCI dropped the ball on this one IMO.

BTW Flsteve, my DD also lives in Weston. I know the area well.

True. I agree, there should be a few areas on a ship where it is adults only. A special restaurant should be one of them (along with a Solarium, and some night events)

Really? We enjoy Weston, lived in Miami for a few years after moving from NY/NJ, but much happier here. Plus we are still only 25 minutes from Port Everglades and 40 minutes from Port of Miami *grin*

I feel sorry for those of you who can't understand the joy that children can bring to your life.

Not everyone would agree with that, there are plenty of people who just don't want kids, and that is perfectly fine. Living a full life of joy isnt contingent on being a parent, and it's hurtful to people who don't have kids, either because of choice or chance, to be told their life isn't "joyful" or fulfilled because they don't have kids. As someone who can't have kids, I know full well the joy they can bring, but if I'm attending something where kids arent supposed to be, then I expect to not be around kids. They may be well behaved and "invisible" but I don't think I should be guilted into spending time with kids when I'm at an adult event because they bring so much "joy" to someone else's life.

Sounds like case closed. RCI says guests must be 21 for Chef's Table. Children should not have been allowed. It would be more than appropriate for anyone to ask for their money back. But, even, more to the point - RCI should NOT have admitted the children in the first place!

Case closed??? The hole point of this thread is that Royal Caribbean is not enforcing its own rules. So how does known the rule close the case?

The case was referencing the debate about whether RCI had a written stated policy of no children. :)

As to RCI not enforcing their own rutes - that is what my last comment referred to "RCI should NOT have admitted the children in the first place!".

Well then, I guess the case is still open.

Don't forget that you yourself was once a child. Also if a parent is lucky to afford a vacation with children why not!!!! Kids today need to explore the world they make better students at school.. Not just exposed to one side of the world. I think that you are living in the past and would hate to know what else you view on life.

How does this relate to small children eating at Chef's table?

They moved there from Kendall 10? years ago. My husband and I refer to it as Pleasantville. Unhappy people are not allowed. :p It works well for us. We have our own room and rent a car at the airport. It's a great base for us. Our winter vacation is out west this year so it will likely be June or July before we get there again.

Thank you...I have to say I have been on cruises before I was a mother but the past 4 since I have been a mom with my son have been the best. RCCL is a FAMILY cruise line if you don't want ot see children go somewhere else.
