rbushy Posted January 19, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2011 Has anyone tipped the Maitre'De on Embarkation to get a table for two? Is this something that can be accomplished and what would be an approprate tip for this service.
*Mach* Posted January 19, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2011 There's no need to tip the Maitre d' for that. He's simply doing his job. However, at the end of the cruise if you feel that the Maitre d' deserves a gratuity you'll be provided an envelope in your cabin for that express purpose :)
Bunkie103 Posted January 19, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 19, 2011 I only went to see the Maitre'd one time to request your time dining and although he did arrange this for us, I didn't feel THAT was the time to tip him. On the last night they leave you an envelope, and that's what I would use. JMHO

If it's anytime, than you really don't have to do anything except tell them you want a 2 top when you show up. If you are doing traditional, talk to the MD on the day of embarkation, and although not neccesary, a tip can't hurt.

Just go to the DR around 1:30 on embarkation day and make your request. If he is able to grant it he will. A tip on the last evening would show your appreciation for his efforts. golfadj Posted January 19, 2011 #6 Share Posted January 19, 2011 I do not believe the MD will accept tip day of embarkation for changing your table. Ask for table for 2 and than tip him at end of cruise.
AWCHIEF Posted January 19, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 19, 2011 There is no reason to bribe any Carnival employee. If a table is available all you have to do is ask. If possible you will be seated where and in what type of table you request.
rbushy Posted January 19, 2011 Author #8 Share Posted January 19, 2011 This has been a great help. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!! Never had a table for two and would like to try!
tootsiescurly Posted January 19, 2011 #9 Share Posted January 19, 2011 Agree whole heartedly with the previous posters. We always have our table changed to a 2 top unless we are sailing with people we know. Have never had a problem! We do leave the Maitre'd a nice tip for his/her efforts at the end of the cruise. kicia Posted January 19, 2011 #10 Share Posted January 19, 2011 As already mentioned, it is rude to tip the Maitre d' when you ask for your table. Tip at the end of the cruise. We always got what we asked for.
Earthworm Jim Posted January 21, 2011 #11 Share Posted January 21, 2011 I've seen them trying to refuse a tip at the time the request was made. We've twice asked to be moved to a table for 2 when the dining room open right after boarding, and been accommodated both times. I tipped him (I think I gave him $20) on the last day. Both times we were late seating though. Perhaps it is more difficult to get a table for two at the early seating, I don't know.
