micruiser12 Posted January 29, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2011 We will have a 3-4 hour layover traveling to and from Barcelona at AMS in the Fall. Wondered if anyone has suggestions for decent restaurants (mid-range price) and shopping at AMS airport?
Rare FlyerTalker Posted January 29, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2011 We will have a 3-4 hour layover traveling to and from Barcelona at AMS in the Fall. Wondered if anyone has suggestions for decent restaurants (mid-range price) and shopping at AMS airport? Information on both of those can be found at THIS PAGE on the Schiphol website. The stores are uniform throughout the terminal...in other words, the price for X will be the same at the stores through the terminal. It's all part of See Buy Fly. Some say that AMS is a shopping mall that happens to have an airport around it. (You can say the same for SIN and DXB). I don't eat much at AMS, so I really can't suggest any plae over another. Big suggestions....don't gamble in the casino (very poor rules against the player) and do go to the museum.
UKBayern Posted January 30, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 30, 2011 A lot of restaurants do fall in the McDonalds type. There is a sushi bar in lounge 1 and a seafood bar in Lounge 2. The Irish pub is next to gate D10. Restaurant de Bonte Koe in Lounge 3 (upper level) is good, but a little pricey. There is also a whole shopping center with eateries on land side, but you would have to go through passport control to get there. There is a fabulous flower shop there too. The Belgian chocolates from Leonidas are like none in the world. On landside, there is also a Starbucks.
grandma*knows*best Posted January 30, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 30, 2011 I personally have found the prices in many shops at AMS to be far higher than for the same items in shops in Amsterdam.

Yes, you are right, but that is the case with most "duty free" shops all over the world. What is taken off in tax is added on in profit. Psychologically it is the case that when people think they have a bargain, they will buy without actually checking. Why do a lot of people buy stuff at airports? It is because they are bored...
