Here We Go Again.........

Here in Toronto we are forecast to receive between 10 to 20+ inches. Now that is not bad. We can easily cope with that. We are used to it. But is does stop trafic and other activities.

Our snowploughs are ready. Snow will start late this afternoon. It will probably be a disaster tomorrow. This will be the biggest snow fall within the past 3 to 4 years.

I hope no one misses their cruise. It would be a sad day to be sure.

Enjoy the day, life goes on and so does the weather. lol

Nordic Prince..... Are you not having a snowy winter in NJ?

We live about 20 miles from Manhattan. The average winter snowfall as measured in Central Park is 31 inches. So far we have had 32 inches plus

the 8 inches which was supposed to be 4 last week.

Traditionally we get the biggest storms in late February and early March because we get the cold arctic air coming down from Canada and the warm moist air from the south coming up along the coast mixing to make a volatile brew. Look what we have to expect real soon.

DW said in November "Let's not take a winter vacation this year and go away with the "kids" (27 and 24) in May. Well I think that was a bad idea because we could have used a break from this. But on the other hand there is no guarantee you could get down to Florida or San Juan to sail as I'm not leaving from NYC in January.

Luckily it seems that except for the Christmas weekend meltdown the storms have been during the middle of the week here and things have been back to normal by the weekend.

I used to dread flying in to Logan on a good day (right at the water's edge) so I can't even imagine what it's like flying out of there in the dead of winter.

Stay warm with happy thoughts of cruises to come.

We have 1/2 in. of ice. So far, the power is still on. We're expecting another inch to inch and a half of ice today.

DH flew to Nashville, Tn. yesterday, as flights to Indianapolis were canceled. He bought a bus ticket to ride overnight to Indianapolis. When he arrived at the bus station, they canceled all buses coming to Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, & Michigan. He took a taxi back to Nashville Airport and rented a one way rental car. He left Nashville to drive home about 11 PM last night. He'll turn it in at the Indy airport and pick up his car. He should have rain all the way until he gets to within 60 mi. or so south of Indy. That's where he'll run into the ice. Needless to say, I'm worried sick!

Our driveway is steep. I went out to clear it off, so he can get up the driveway. The ice is so hard, it's like cement. You sure can't shovel it. I put down some ice melt, but I don't think it'll work in these temps and as thick as the ice is.

Hope everyone else is fairing OK. Good luck all

JJPacer....... sounds dreadful.

Please let us know when your DH is safely home. Don't worry too much. Of course, he's being careful.

We've been hearing about the ice and that is what worries me. All that weight on the roofs on top of the snow that is already piled high.

Everyone getting hit with these storms, be careful. Don't take any silly risks.

He got home about an hour ago. He didn't sleep any last night so he is sleeping now. He said when he got back to the Indy Airport it took him an hour to clean the ice off his car so he could drive home. The Ice melt crystals didn't work on the driveway. It's supposed to be above freezing on Sun. I suppose we'll have to wait until then. I was hoping to get this layer of ice off the sidewalk & drive before it starts again later this afternoon. But that's not going to happen.

I expect to loose power when the next part of the storm comes. I cooked some food and doing everything I can think of that takes electricity, so we can get by without power. We have a gas fireplace and gas hot water heater. That's the only things that will work if the power goes out. Mother nature is providing refrigeration! We sure wish everyone the best and hoping all stay safe in all parts of the country.

Cow Princess..... happy your friend got her roof cleaned. We didn't have anyone who we could have do ours or I surely would have.

JJPacer..... So happy to hear your DH is safely home. Fingers crossed none of us lose power but it is certainly possible it could happen.

Air Canada has revised its ticketing policy for customers booked on affected flights to facilitate changes to bookings. Those customers wishing to make alternate travel arrangements can do so without penalty, space permitting, using our online rebooking tool: check your alternate travel options currently available; re-book yourself and check in before arriving at the airport.

So it's started...I hope I can get to FLL I fly out on Friday evening at 8:50 ..Meeting my DD who will fly in (5 hrs) from the west coast..Will be a very long day..

Stay safe everyone..

The Dallas area is a giant ice skaing rink and wreaking havoc on the Super Bowl reveling. Today was media day at Cowboys Stadium and both teams' busses had their own personal sand truck escorting them there. :) There was a giant party tent at the Cotton Bowl that collapsed under the weight of the ice. The vendors and shop and restaurant owners are watching the $$$ they were hoping to make just slip away on the ice as no one is venturing out. It's a mess but Jerry Jones is promising great weather for Sunday....that's our JJ. ;)

Sapper 1,

Thanks for the link, which explained the references you all were making to the army. Great story!

This year, thankfully, we seem to have just been grazed with some ice (this after 4-8 inches of snow earlier this week), and we should be able to make it out to Tampa for our cruise on Ryndam with no problems.

This is unlike last year, when we got three feet of snow when we were about to cruise and barely escaped -- somebody called it Snowmaggedon, and the name stuck. Well, tonight, I heard on PTI (a sports-yak show aired in the US and Canada) one of the people calling the current storm, which is affecting about 2,100 miles across the US and Canada, affecting 100 million people or more -- "Snowtorious B.I.G." OK, I'm sure Sail7Seas and all those affected are probably not any more amused than I was last year, but I thought the name was funny.

Here's hoping you escape again this year and have a super time on your cruise.

My sister was in Toronto then. I still remember rubbing her nose in it. The Maritimes cope with all their snow and the one time Toronto get some, they call in the army. I wonder if they will have to do it again.;););) hope everyone stays safe :)

Nope the road clearing gang was sitting ready for this yesterday so no Army here today. :) Just about every school board in SW Ontario is closed for the day today so it's a sleep-in day for me today. :D

The schools have closed here too. Good decision. They are now saying it's coming sooner. hopefully the businesses are wise and let their people go home while it's safe

Schools all closed here today, also. We got about 8" yesterday and it is now snowing again but they say it will switch to freezing rain.....groan. we are north of Boston and not that many miles makes a difference whether we get snow, sleet, freezing rain or even rain on Cape Cod. It's plain miserable!

In my Chicago suburb the huge winds have finally died down. Snow (according to the radio) measures approximately seventeen inches plus or minus, and it is still coming. All the counties have declared a state of emergency and closed their roads. There have been cars (with folks inside of them) stuck on Lake Shore Drive in the city since rush hour yesterday. The fire department in Chicago has been rescuing folks in trouble using snowmobiles. Our electricity flashed and flickered last night but thankfully never went out.

Interesting .... We discovered that the French doors to the back deck that we thought were just fine -- under the pressure of last night's high winds are actually not so fine as there were high winds and small particles of snow that just came flowing in around them at the corners during the height of the storm. We have lived here ten years and never had an issue here before! The rest of our windows look like they are decorated for Christmas, with snow piled up against the windows several inches up from the sills.

Most important, however, is that we are warm and safe and hope everyone else affected by this storm is also warm and

safe.

And, as of a few hours ago, my flight to Fort Lauderdale for tomorrow has not been cancelled yet. Only time will tell how that will go.

Yeah, this winter is getting old, isn't it?:o Here in northeast PA, we've got about 2 ft. of the white stuff on the ground from our weekly Tues./Wed. snowstorms for the past month or so (kinda like a bath, whether we need it or not:rolleyes:) and then yesterday, the Ice Man Cometh....er, Cameth??? Taking the dog out this morning was treacherous. We live on top of a mountain in the woods - all the trees are heavy and groaning with about an inch of ice covering every branch. In my short time out there, saw three large (6 to 8 ft.) branches come crashing down not far from our fence, and then one HUGE tree - the whole darn thing - just missed our nearest neighbor's house by a few feet. My poor dog, Piper, tucked her tail and slid her way onto the porch, whimpering the whole way....with me not far behind (whimpering as well, I might add! ;) Gonna be a looooooooonnnnnnngggggg day and night ahead, worrying about the three huge Pines towering over our house in the front, as Pines are notorious for uprooting themselves in these types of storms. Fingers crossed.

Stay safe everyone, and warm and dry. As our local weatherman says, if you don't need to be out there, keep your butt at home:D!
