Now, I got the Mai Tai's that are the classic drinks for like $9 or something after the added gratuity so that I could take the receipt to the casino cashier and get a free match and play ticket for the casino. Those you can only get by ordering the Carnival Classic drinks.

can you explain this more? thanks! :-)

Thanks for all the replys and good info. I'm really not sure of local drink prices here on Long Island. I usually drink wine with dinner and with 2 kids, I have not been to the bars lately:rolleyes:. Luckily we'll be going to Nachi in Cozemel where the drinks are included. We'll also attend the Chef's table with wine included. We'll bring two other bottles or wine for dinner. DH usually drinks beer with the occassional martinio or V & T. On a cruise I might have an occasional margarita or yellow bird or early morning bloody mary. I guess will just have to budget for them. BTW....Where do you get the drink coupons mentioned on this thread?

Obviously, you are not familiar with a Long Island Iced Tea so I will enlighten you...

The ingredients for a Long Island Iced Tea is...gin, vodka, rum, tequilla, and triple sec filled to just about the top, shot by shot.leaving enough room for a splash of soda..so it is in fact filled full...one of the strongest drinks made.

So, yes, it is true..and very strong...and worth every penny...and can be split into 2 drinks, for those who can't handle the potency.

As a part time bartender when I was younger and much cuter, I know the ingredients....that's not the point.

The drink has the same amount of alcohol in it whether you have ice or not...that was the point. You aren't getting "more for the money" essentially by eliminating ice....

Well, lucky for me the Pride is still using the "old" menu as of 12/05/10...because the 12oz Bud is only $3.95. ;)

I agree....I lucked out on the Pride, too 1/9/11...prices were as shown.

Heck, Pride must be an exception to the "fleetwide bar menu" Carnival has....

Princess has the following specials after 8 pm. It would be nice if Carnival would do something like this.

  • All house spirits at 2.99
  • Piña Coladas, Singapore Slings and Long Island Iced Tea at 2.99
  • Dos Equis, Becks, Miller and Miller Lite beer at 2.99

They could if they raised their rates. There's no such thing as a free lunch. You can have low fares and higher drink prices....or higher fares with lower prices.

It seems clear that whether you think Carnival prices are "exorbitant" or not depends on where you live

(or drink):D

In Canada ,specifically Montreal ,I would be satisfied to always pay Carnival booze prices.

Except for happy hour deals ,it's cheaper to drink on board then at most bars and restaurants.

Even bon voyage prices are not much higher then we are stuck with.

Count your blessings:rolleyes:

Ditto in my area...South Jersey Philly area....and forget NYC, Wash DC or Baltimore.

that would definitely depend upon the individual bartender... they don't all just read / mix off a list of ingredients, ya know ;)

If you consider what you pay for drinks at a theme park, ball game, concert etc., the prices on board are not that out of line. You have to put in perspective where you are enjoying that drink and if you take the advice offered in this thread you can reduce the cost somewhat. Buying beer by the bucket, order a bottle from Bon Voyage, and enjoy the best vacation experience out there.

yeah..but a week is a heck of a long ball game..I'll order a bottle for the room...lol

I did one Mediterranean cruise where the drinks were all free, there was a free vodka and caviar bar every night, and they gave you two free one-liter bottles of your choice for the cabin.

The cruise line was SeaDream and they made up for it on their prices.

That is very true. Carnival depends on sales of booze to make money. That's why this thread is there and that is why prices are so high.

That is an old bar menu. The cheapest beer now is 4.96 Blue Moon and the most expensive domestic is Bud Light Lime 6.25

I was on the Fantasy a couple of weeks ago and they were still using the "old" prices.

Mexican prices can vary widely. In October we were at Cabo Wabo in Cabo San Lucas. I ordered a double shot of their Cabo Wabo tequila. $22.00.

For those that order from Bon Voyage to make their own drinks:

Do you bring your own beverage container, or re-use those you can get on the ship?

i bring my own...

IMG_5194.jpg

it's an insulated tumbler, with flip top built in straw and everything - very convenient to carry around and keeps the drink cold with some ice. something like 30 oz, too, so it holds quite a bit more than the standard glass.

i bring it to the bars, also, and even if they just serve in the normal glasses - i'll order 2 of whatever, and just pour them in. the one in the picture specifically was filled at the pride's piano bar, by a particularly nice bartender :D

Living in NYC I thought $8.00 was a pretty fair price.

The price of everything is more in NYC and they have higher salaries to compensate. Watch commercials for Red Lobster or some other national food chain and in small print it will say prices are higher in AK, HI and NYC.

:eek: I feel like a right booze bag!

We pre order several wine packages, aim to have at least 30 x bottles of sparkling wine "on tap" for us when we board. With around 6 x glasses to the bottle, we do find this way its cheaper than buying on board. We get the cabin steward to top our fridge up from our "supply" and also, at any bar/restaurant, have been able to draw from our "tap". I think we had a wee card which they marked off every time we had a bottle.

We dont drink "fru fru" frozen things... but do like a good Grey Goose Bloody Mary in the mornings, and good martinis at night.

I guess for us depends on the exchange rate for the dollar at the time of our cruise. Must admit, our cruise in 2009 was a huge difference from our cruise in 2008 when we were getting 2 x dollars to the GBP.. half price all the way:D

That aside, the prices you are quoting on here, dont seem much different from any city bar. We do always though, order by the bottle rather than by the glass, it always works out cheaper..

In saying all of that, when we walk along the corridor on departure night, see everyones bills on their doorway...and then theirs "ours"..the "toilet roll" clipped by our doorway:eek:

Last cruise our daughter and niece were with us so that was bit of a nightmare as they signed pretty much all to us, but in their cabin, I seen this selection of flavoured vodkas they had.. I asked them "where did they get the booze". They looked at me and said " we brought it on with us!"... they honestly had no idea that they werent allowed booze to carry on..but somehow, their luggage went through no problem with all bottles intact!

I asked them didnt their cabin steward say anything... "no, they said, we give him a wee pear vodka now and then:D

Ah well, way we see it, if we cant afford the booze, we cant afford the cruise!

The best deal on beer is the Foster's. They come in the big "oil can" and are 26.5 ounces (.750 liter) for $6.75. That's the equivalent of $3.05 for a 12-ounce beer. And Foster's is a very good beer.

The Classic Cocktails are doubles. If I order a double martini at my neighborhood tavern' date=' it's going to cost me a minimum of about $12.00, so the $8 or $9 price on the ship is not at all bad by comparison.

Also, the Bon Voyage bottles are liter bottles, so that makes them less expensive than you would think, if you're comparing them to .750 liter bottles. You're getting a third more liquor.

I used to smuggle and use rum runners, but now I order through Bon Voyage. It's so much less hassle and stress and they wrap it with frou-frou ribbons and stuff. :)[/quote']

You are joking right ? Fosters is an Autralian export larger that even the Ozzies dont drink "as it's weak as p**s"

Fosters is ANYTHING but a "good beer"

Yes, the Princess special is great!! You can have a beer or Pina Colada without feeling like you're emptying your wallet!

Carnival has a half dozen or so drinks usually located on the back of the drink menu that are called "Carnival Classics", when you purchase one of these drinks and take the receipt to the cashier in the casino they give you a free $5 match and play ticket for the tables in the casino. A ticket for each "Classic" drink purchased...at least this was the case on the Pride.

I had read about this prior to my last cruise from a poster here..can't remember the ship they were on but it wasn't the Pride. Tried it on the Pride and they were right...free ticket for each "Classic" drink purchased.
