Mist_ynight Posted February 11, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 11, 2011 On my last and only cruise we walked off with our luggage. I would prefer not to do that this cruise and was wondering how long does it take to get your luggage if you check it. Our flight out is at 11. Where do you pick up your luggage when you check it? I will walk off with the luggage if I have to but would like some input from people who have actually done it. I'm a little worried about being on time for our flight. Thanks :)
Rare 4cats4me Posted February 11, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 11, 2011 Which cruise port are you speaking of? We usually check our luggage through. If you have an 11 a.m. flight, then you would get the early disembarkation tags and you will get off the ship and then be directed to the particular section where your luggage will be. It's very easy. then you claim your luggage [or you can have a porter help you too] and then you will probably go through customs/immigration. That has been the protocol for Port of Los Angeles and Ft. Lauderdale. If you walk off, that would most likely be the first group to leave the ship. You must be able to handle all your own luggage. Port of Miami was very similar last year on Navigator OTS. Only issue is if the ship doesn't clear customs on time.
Happy ks Posted February 11, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 11, 2011 We carried our own bags off a cruise....once....will never do that again. We have found that since so many people think they can disembark faster and get where they want to go faster, there is less luggage at the claim site. However, your flight is an early one and I'd be very concerned about making it in time even if you did carry off your own bags. You don't state which port you will be disembarking from, that can make a difference. Most cruise lines advise not to book a flight earlier than 12 noon. Mist_ynight Posted February 12, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted February 12, 2011 I'm talking about Fort Lauderdale, sorry I forgot to put that in. I would prefer to check the luggage. Princess says my flight times are ok so I'm sure I would get the earliest disembarkation they can give me. Thanks for the input, I love all the help I can get on this site :)
RickEk Posted February 12, 2011 #6 Share Posted February 12, 2011 You should be fine. If there are no problems with Customs, you'll be among the first off and they'll have your baggage waiting in the terminal (just make sure you let them know what time your flight is...). A quick cab ride and you'll be at the airport... no worries...
caribill Posted February 12, 2011 #7 Share Posted February 12, 2011 (just make sure you let them know what time your flight is...) You should get a form during the cruise asking what time your flight is. If you receive luggage tags assigned to a time you feel is not early enough, you caqn go to the Purser's desk and request an earlier time.

cruiseron36 Posted February 12, 2011 #10 Share Posted February 12, 2011 Thanks for all the info :) If your nairline participates in the Princess EZ check (I think that is the name of it) for a small fee your luggage will be taken right to the airline once you place it in the hall and you will get boarding passes the night before. You may or may not have to claim and ID your luggage in the morning but it works very well.
