Cannes vs. Villefranche

I am currently looking at 2012 Med itineraries. NCL has two similar cruises where one goes to Cannes and the other goes to Villefranche. If given the option, which port would you choose and why. Thanks.

Both of those ports offer access to many places and also have train and bus stations. The bad news is that they are both tender ports which does waste valuable time getting ashore. As to which port is better its simply a matter of where you want to spend your day. Villefranche is closer to Nice, Eze and Monte Carlo and also makes it a little easier to get to St Paul de Vence (although we simply rent cars in Cannes and drive to that walled city). For a first visit to the area we would probably recommend Villefranche and suggest visiting Nice and Eze and perhaps Monte Carlo (not our favorite place but many want to go there).

You also should take a very careful look at the times and days your ship is in the port. Some NCL cruises have been known to have a short-day in Cannes (ideally you want a long day). Also keep in mind that Sundays will find many shops closed.
