dmtb518 Posted February 14, 2011 #28 Share Posted February 14, 2011 you may want to keep it low key but the cruise staff may not... I celebrated my birthday a few years ago and when ever anyone slid my card a happy birthday was always given and if you are at events with the cruise staff such as bingo, they would sometimes sing even if it wasnt the day of my birthday.... Make sure you find a way to pack a wrapped gift... Have fun and enjoy Dawn
raventhebouv Posted February 14, 2011 #29 Share Posted February 14, 2011 upgrade !!!! :) Ooooooooohhhhhh, I love this one! Dinner at Le Bistro, nice bottle of bubbly is my favorite thing to do on my birthday or anniversary at sea. If you tell them it is a special occasion they will bring you a cake and all the waiters will sing. Very nice! A spa package is nice too if your spouse is into that...but a nice card filled with $$ for the casino is nice too!! Have fun no matter how you celebrate!:D

OceanDreaming2 Posted February 14, 2011 #31 Share Posted February 14, 2011 My DH didn't want all the world to know it was his birthday, but friends asked about a cake on his birthday and during the course of the cruise he received no less than 4 cakes! He took it in great stride, though, and still talks about it years later. ;)
Crusin6 Posted February 14, 2011 #32 Share Posted February 14, 2011 If your spouse was celebrating a birthday on a cruise, what would you do? It must be somewhat low key i.e., no balloons, decorations on the door etc. Any ideas? yes...I would consider the cruise his celebration and maybe book a specialty restaurant for the night of his birthday. mbisson Posted February 14, 2011 #33 Share Posted February 14, 2011 Monty, you are just too funny!:D And cheap...LOL Actually for a bday we would likely probably do La Bistro maybe a special bottle of wine-no big deal... to us, every day on a ship is special! 4774Papa Posted February 15, 2011 #34 Share Posted February 15, 2011 Get the whole pool deck to sing happy birthday to her! Some people don't like having the staff sing happy birthday. My Wife is one.
Doughboy139 Posted February 16, 2011 #35 Share Posted February 16, 2011 On August 10, 2010 it was my 79th birthday and it was spent in St. Petersburg, Russia. On returning to the ship after a day of sightseeing, the crew member checking us back onto the ship-remarked-outloud- "Its your birthday - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU". The other passengers also checking back on board, on hearing this - all started to sing Happy Birthday to me. It brought me to tears-I was so surprized--it is something I will never forget. Later, my son and I had dinner on the deck and as we were finishing - several crew members along with the manager came up from behind me singing Happy Birthday and giving to me a beautiful birthday cake. It was a complete surprize and I was very happy and yes there were a few more tears. Surprizes can be fun. Carol, mother of Doughboy139 from Vermont. swedish weave Posted February 16, 2011 #36 Share Posted February 16, 2011 It is pretty hard to keep birthdays a secret on the ships, especially if they know you. They can think up a lot of fun ways to surprise you!!!!
