A quick note to Facebookers (SWA Scam going around)

I know a lot of CCers probably look for cheap airfare to have some money for spending on their cruise, but there's a scam that's going around on Facebook that you should be aware of so you can steer clear.

 

If you're on Facebook and you have a friend that posts a comment about free Southwest Airline tickets, don't click on the link. This is a scam that's been going around and if you click the link and "Connect with Facebook", you don't get free airline tickets; instead you get a free account compromise.

 

The message looks like this:

 

 

Working in IT, I've seen this one spread rapidly, and they've done a good job at making it look 'right'. Number 1 rule though... ALWAYS check the URL when the page loads.

 

 

Note that this one says swa33.info. Southwest's REAL website is southwest.com. When in doubt, go to the real website by typing in the address yourself. Call their contact number and ask them if they have a promotion going on.

There's an ipad one going around, too. My friend had to close her FB account. A phony message and a link were sent to all her linked friends, and we all started calling, emailing, and instant messaging her AT THE SAME TIME telling her about it!! She went nutz with it for several hours.
