jaybird from SC Posted February 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 24, 2011 I am curious as to what everyone's favorite Southern Caribbean Port is and why you like it? Curacao because it is just different from most of the others-very colorful and clean-just has a different feel about it.
griffy116 Posted February 24, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 24, 2011 Curacao is our favorite. It has so much..history, beauty, clean, friendly, shopping, strolling and everything inbetween. Fabulous port.
cndycruiser Posted February 24, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 24, 2011 Oh my goodness!! Tortola!! Went there several years ago and went to the far side of the island - up, then down the mountain to a beautiful beach!! Went a couple of years ago and it is an easy ferry ride over to Virgin Gorda and the Baths! NOT to be missed! St. Barts was wonderful too with Shell Beach there, but don't see that on normal cruise stops any more. St. Thomas is absolutely GORGEOUS with the mountainous terrain and you can also take a ferry ride over to St. John's too!! Liked the least?? Bahamas (flat and kind of boring)
debshomespun Posted February 24, 2011 #5 Share Posted February 24, 2011 I love Barbados. They have beautiful beaches. Wanting to go spend a week on this island! Second choice would be Curacao. It is a very unique place to visit and also very colorful!
trish1c Posted February 24, 2011 #6 Share Posted February 24, 2011 They all have good points. I guess my favorite would be St. Thomas because there is so much variety but also because it's where DH bought my e-ring so it will always hold special memories. :D
MDSue Posted February 25, 2011 #7 Share Posted February 25, 2011 It's hard to choose a favorite but I loved Barbados, Antigua, and Tortola probably the most. The best way to enjoy each island is to do some research ahead of time and get away from the main port area. St, Maarten probably is the nicest place if you want to stay close to the ship. I haven't been to Curacao yet, but it's on my wish list. My neighbors love Aruba, so I'm looking forward to checking this and a few other islands out this spring. travlnblueberries Posted February 26, 2011 #9 Share Posted February 26, 2011 DH and I would vote for Dominica. We just came back from a, b (without the c) islands, but will be there this october. I guess it's all of what you want from an island.

bplazo Posted February 26, 2011 #11 Share Posted February 26, 2011 I loved St. Lucia, Aruba, and Barbados and that is because we did some great excursions on these islands.
Doug R. Posted February 26, 2011 #12 Share Posted February 26, 2011 Barbados, loved it during our cruise and went back for a week. Beautiful beaches, great scenery, nice people! Would go back in a second!
cookinguy917 Posted February 27, 2011 #13 Share Posted February 27, 2011 St Maarten - Orient Beach - Fantastic time - great people - great memories was from our 1st cruise (honeymoon - this may explain it all:)) and what we judge all other islands / ports by. morecruise4me Posted February 27, 2011 #14 Share Posted February 27, 2011 How can you choose just one?! We love Aruba and Barbados because they have beautiful beaches and seem more "clean" and affluent than some others. But we adore St. Lucia and Dominica for the their wild mountainous landscapes. Guess we'll just have to keep cruising to them all :D
sail7seas Posted February 27, 2011 #15 Share Posted February 27, 2011 Curacao and Aruba. And we'll be there soon. :)
Sheffie Posted February 27, 2011 #16 Share Posted February 27, 2011 I think it is like trying to decide which child I love the most. I love them all, but whichever one I am with, at that moment they are loved the most. So, whichever island I am on is my favorite!
terkatz56 Posted February 27, 2011 #17 Share Posted February 27, 2011 Bonaire, because I loved the snorkeling, but Curacoa, because I am a tourist/traveler at heart. Curacoa, was very nice and lots to do, the only island I visited in Dec. that I didn't snorkel. Figure out what you love to do or see and research and go from there. mrshark Posted February 27, 2011 #18 Share Posted February 27, 2011 Aruba gets my vote. Plenty to do and see, and to us anyway, people were extremely nice. Another one I was at once was Maragarita Island, think it belongs to Venezuela?? Anyway , cool little place. Another nice one is Bonaire.
Sharon I Posted February 28, 2011 #19 Share Posted February 28, 2011 My favorite island in the Caribbean is the one I will be visiting next. I just love the Caribbean so much. An easier questions would be what my least favorite Caribbean island be: Barbados. Sharon I

What is it about Barbados that seems to make it unfavorable to you?
Sharon I Posted February 28, 2011 #21 Share Posted February 28, 2011 The last time we visited Barbados my husband kept being followed by a homeless person while we were trying to shop. This homeless man kept begging us for money, we crossed the street and he followed us. We went into a jewelry store and my husband went outside to wait for me and the homeless man approached him again. The store beside of the jewelry store was a barbershop and the barber came out asked my husband if the man was bothering him and if he was he offered to pop him for my husband. We rushed back to the ship and we will make sure not to ever go shopping in Barbados again. Does that make sense to you. Sharon I

That would make me uncomfortable, too. And, it's true, it can happen most anywhere but it is Barbados where it happened to you. It's funny. I just read a review I wrote where I mentioned stopping in Barbados and saying I liked it. I must run hot and cold with that island as it seems I go back and forth about it. Princess Sassy Posted March 8, 2011 #25 Share Posted March 8, 2011 We love Grenada and Bonaire! Sorobone Beach in Bonaire was extrordinary! Being able to be not even waist deep in wonderfully clear and refreshing water in such a huge area was awesome!!
