Hi, Search on Select does not help me find details, I end up threads about Select dining.

So my question is really about the details of the Select benefits such as

How do you get the $20 price on the laundry bag? Do they have it there in the cabin for you?

Do they automatically invite you to events like the Captains party, Senior Officers Cocktail Party, wine seminar? What are these events like? When are they typically held? Are the cocktail parties open bar?

What is in the coupon booklet? Any particullarly good or bad coupons?

What about the priority embarcation and priority status for shore excursion waitlist?

Again thanks in advance for any and all info.

The coupons and invitations to events for the Select level of Captains Club will be delivered to your stateroom. The coupons should be there when you arrive. The laundry discount is actually pretty good. You can contact Captains Club to ask additional questions.

I actually haven't cruised with Celebrity yet, but have the equivalent status on RCI, which gets me the same status on celebrity. I answer the following questions with how they worked on RCI.

1) They give you a laundry bag that's usually a $25 deal for all you can stuff in there (it's not very large), and a $5 coupon discount on it.

2) You recieve invitations in your stateroom for special events, which happen throughout the cruise- the one I went to had some free drinks but no open bar. I think Diamond members (equivalent to Elite) had more events with things like open bar.

3) The coupon booklet has discounts on many things, including good stuff like 15% off of a spa treatment, 2 for 1 drink coupon, as well as stuff like discounts off bigger purchases of cruise merchandise. We only used a few coupons, but that's still better than the kind of coupon booklet you're given at the intro level.

4) Priority embarkation is great- you get to use the lounge/area that the suite passengers use. The line is much much shorter, the staff is friendlier and less hassled, and there are refreshments (this is true in NJ, obviously, each departure port is different). Since we travel with toddlers, that was huge for us. We didn't stand in line at all, and the whole check-in process was the shortest ever, and no one cried- a first!

5) I think the shore excursion thing is that if an excursion is sold out, they have a wait list for all the suite passengers and people in select and elite categories, and then a wait list for everyone else. I've never tried to do a sold out excursion, so I don't know if that actually helps in any way.

Thanks for the info.

Still abit curious if you can order you favorite drinks at the parties. On Carnival, Princess, and Oceania we could order our favorites like scotch, margaritas, miami vice, etc. Whatever we were in the mood for.

so anyone care to share details about the Celebrity parties?? Captains and Senior officiars parties??

Thanks.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm bumping this because it's a fairly recent thread and the OP has unanswered questions that are along the same lines as my questions. I figured it would be better to group our questions together rather than start a semi-redundant thread. Not to be a jerk, but "You can contact Captain's Club to ask additional questions" kinda defies the point of these boards, amiright?

So, if anyone has the time, please, could they explain to me some details such as:

Is the "complimentary wine seminar" the Riedel wine tasting or something else?

What is the difference between the Senior Officer's Cocktail Party and the Captain's Club Celebration event?

I've sailed on RCI a handful of times, so I'm fairly familiar with the coupon process and such, I'm just not yet familiar with the X nomenclature.

I'm sorry if these questions have been answered before, but after searching on here and Googling around, I wasn't able to find any detailed answers. Any help at all is very much appreciated! :)

When you come into the room for the parties there are waiters walking around with trays full of drinks...soda, wine, champagne, cosmos, and a couple of others. They use to let you order other things after a while...but not any more...they pretty well stick to a drink list...One of the parties has nice food at it and last a little longer...

the wine tasting is now fewer wines also, but you sit at tables and they pour you maybe 4 wines and then talk about each...they use to be cheese and crackers, but not the last time.

The riedel tasting you must pay for, but then get a few glasses....about the price of the glasses.

Hope someone gives you better answer than these...but a place to start....

We were on the Summit for a b2b Jan 28...we only went to the Senior Officers Party both weeks. It was held in Reflections and was very nice both weeks. They had table cards that told the drinks that were being offered. If my memory was better I could tell you exactly..but there was Champagne, Cosmos, Manhattans, a Martini, wine and soft drinks. I know there were more, but I was a Cosmo girl both times!! They had waiters passing trays of wonderful hors'dourves and a nice band playing music. All of the staff was walking around and stopping at tables to chat. About midway through, the CD introduced the staff and the Officers.

It was lovely. We did not go to the to the other party, since we knew from previous experience it would be very crowded and since all members are invited, not as social as the Senior Officers party was.

Enjoy!

Pat

Hey, finally some anwers - thanks so much.

What time of day are the events? the wine tasting, the senior officer's parties?

Anyone remember any particulary good coupons for the Select level?

Bummer that it is not open bar, but there do seem to be a variety of drinks available and the price is right:)

Thanks for the bump up and the info.

This May will be my first time on a Celebrity cruise, but I found a few old threads where some folks seemed to indicate that the time of day for the wine tasting tended to vary, and one or two cruisers said that the event was held at 10 or 11 AM on their sailing! Ah well, we're on vacation anyway, so why not? :D

happy cruzer, I did a lil more digging around and found this thread...

http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1231298

...it has some vague details as to what's included in the Captain's Club Select coupon booklet. Between that and post #5 in this thread, I think we can form a decent idea as to what's included.

It's funny. It must be a difference in the clientele. On the CC RCI boards, if you ask what the coupon books include, you are immediately (albeit somewhat rudely) redirected to an old post that gives a coupon-by-coupon breakdown of what's provided for you. On the X boards, you'd think that the Select coupons are secrets.

As an RCI guy, the impression my research gives me is that the coupons on X are similar to what I've encountered as a Crown & Anchor platinum member (read: somewhat useful, but not dazzling). A BOGO beer/wine, a free casino match-play, etc...

If I find any more specifics, I'll pass them along. As it stands, I'm going to show up for my cruise on the Summit not expecting anything from the coupons. Any benefits we get will just be a bonus.

I'll let you know that we booked a cruise with X and then found out about the free intra-category upgrade. We called RCI to transfer our status to X and asked about the upgrade (only available at time of booking). They were inflexible about retroactively applying an upgrade. Of course, this isn't a complaint since X clearly states that any upgrade claims of this sort need to be made at the time of booking.

Finally, I'll confirm that the coupons are distributed as described in this thread. You'll get the discount booklets on the day of departure, followed by event invitations on the evenings prior.

I hope this helps. Thanks for asking the same questions I had.

thanks burrito, an update after your cruise would be wonderful.

and yes, I too noticed the different level of information provided in response to questions. Each board seems to have its own personality.

Thanks. And Happy Fat Tuesday

The Senior Officers party was held from 7p until ? There wasn't a charge, but my husband drinks scotch and hat was not offered, even for a fee! We had late dining and it was fine. The wine tasting was held in the afternoon...we did not go. As far as the coupons, we are elite so they may be different from select as far as the amount of $$$ but there was the laundry one, the dry cleaning, a pressing one, of the internet one, a casino match play, a bingo card deal, and of course some spa ones. We did the laundry, casino, internet, and a bingo one. The nice thing is you each get a set, so double the fun! At least the laundry and internet both got used both weeks! AI believe there was also one for the art...but I know I didn't use it. I think in all it was about 20 coupons. Now they are not in a booklet like other lines, it is a sheet of fold and bend etc.

Wish I knew more....sorry!

My cruise time is finally getting very close so I wanted to double check for some recent SELECT benefits info.

Do Select still get priority embarcation, we will be in Barcelona if that helps?

Coupons we are interested in are internet, laundry, drinks and wine :) any updates on what is in the sheet?

Recent details about Captains, Senior Officers parties? Do they happen in the same venue? Offer the same drinks? Wine seminar for Select still offered?

Thanks for all the helpful info.

Priority embarcation only means a seperate line for CC members.. Sometimes the lines for the regular cabins are shorter. Really a meaningless benefit and not sure if they do it at Barcelona.

The other things are pretty much the same, the really good benefits start when you get to Elite..

We were on the Equinox in March. The wine tasting was the first sea day at 11:30. It was held in the MDR. It was packed and many people were turned away. They did take the names and cabin numbers of the people turned away. They scheduled another wine tasting towards the end of the cruise for those people. It was held in Silk Road in the afternoon. I didn't go but my sister and her husband did and they were disappointed. Of course they are well versed in wines so ... The coupons are all on a sheet that is in your stateroom when you arrive. It was attached to a letter listing all of the Captains Club events for the whole cruise. We were not notified separately for each event. So if you get a letter listing the events be sure you keep it. The coupon I like best is the one for a 25% off on internet packages of $99 or more. The others weren't of interest to me so I can't tell you what they are. The Captains Club event was held in the afternoon of a sea day. We went but didn't go in as my sister had shorts on and the dress was country club casual. We did go to the senior officers thing. It was nice. Good food and the drinks were fine. They did have a card listing what was available. There was a band and many people were dancing. On our cruise both events were held in the Sky Lounge. I don't know about priority embarkation because we didn't use it. We left from FLL and we were on the ship within 20 minutes of arriving at the port. The thing I like best about the Captains Club(someone asked) is when the person registering you hands you your sea pass card and says welcome back. :)
