HELP Me Convince DH

DH and I have been married almost a year. He is 16 years older and has been there .. done that .. when it comes to raising his children. His youngest is 18. My daughter is 9 so I'm still in the day to day raising of my daughter.

I would very much like to take her on a Disney Cruise. We have been to WDW a couple of times and seeing the commercials for the Dream has her all excited and wanting to cruise.

I thought I had him convinced but then he came across a video of the sailaway party and backed out saying it was too much kid stuff .. too much Disney in your face .. no way can he go on such a cruise.

HELP .. what can I do to assure him that a Disney Cruise can be fun for adults too. He thinks we can go on a different ship for a 3-4 night cruise (7 nights is too long for him). I just don't think any of us would be happy on a different cruise line on a shorter cruise. I have sailed twice before and both 7 nights on the then newest ships in RCCL and Carnival. He cruised once years ago on the Big Red Boat.

Wellll.... first you might want to wait until he's older than 16.

Apparently, he's like me; once I hit 30, I started counting down instead of up. :D

There is sooooooo much more to a Disney cruise than the Sailaway party. We've been on four so far, and have two more booked this year. They have been, without a doubt, the most relaxing and refreshing vacations we have ever taken. If he's worried about being overrun with kids, that simply doesn't happen; the kids are entertained in a wide variety of age-appropriate activities, and you hardly notice them otherwise. There are several lounges and nightclubs, Palo is a great escape from reality, and Castaway Cay is the finest beach we've ever visited.

Do a search on YouTube to find plenty of other videos showing "the other side" of DCL cruising.

LOL ... thanks for pointing out my blooper .. he is 16 years OLDER .. LOL

My mission for this weekend will be to convince him that he is not going to have Mickey in his face 24/7 .. I have a an aft cabin in what appears to be an excellent location on hold until March 1 when the deposit is due. I really think he'll have a good time ..

My Mom is even considering going and if she does then DD will share a cabin with her which would make it even more appealing to him. Don't get me wrong .. he loves "our" daughter immensely .. but he still likes his space too.

Can you show him pics of the spa and pics and menu of Palo? Also... show him the adults only pool area and the CUSHY chairs there!

We went on a Carnival cruise and, while we enjoyed it, the adults only pool was not restricted and did not have such nice amenities!

You don't ahve to go to the sailaway party. It's a little too much kid stuff for us as well, so we enjoyed sailaway on our balcony with a bottle of Champagne.

We're (no kids) cruising Disney again this fall, and are seriously considering a transatlantic in a couple of years. Lot's for adults to do, and unlike other lines, DCL really does a good job of keeping the adult areas kid free.

as I have written many times here, we are Platinum Disney cruisers who do not have kids! And we always sail with other couples.

Yes, the sailaway party has tons of kids, of course it does. It is really the only kid intense part of the cruise, that and the Pirate party. But if you don't like it, don't go.

Sit on your veranda, enjoy the adult pool area, go sit inside at a bar. Like ducklite does, we bring a bottle of champage and sit on our veranda.

Once the kids get on and get into the kids programs, you and you significant other will have plenty of alone time. Parents need alone time, even when on vacation. And Disney keeps the kids having fun.

We don't need gambling and smokey casinos. We love to have fun, laugh, enjoy the fun in the dining rooms. That's why we love Disney. And we'll keep going.

Get DH a good book and GO!

9 yr olds are right in the groove for this experience. Like the comment about champagne and VS, but really, she his daughter now too and he would want her to go and have a good time. Besides, he may ride the Duck and get hooked!

Dearest Mr DH of Jayhawks fan,

You will not be overwhelmed with Disney in your face.

I'm in my 50's and enjoy it as a cruise - with the benefit of Disney (which I love)

Watching the children on board experience the Disney characters is so much fun to see! Sometimes I am brought to tears watching their precious faces and excitement.

Since you're kids are grown, you will now be able to watch your 9 year old experience Disney . Seeing things through her eyes will be priceless.

I don't go to the sailaway party, I enjoy sailaway on my balcony.

The experience of doing a Disney Cruise with your wife and 9 year old will be memories you'll treasure forever. And they will be so grateful you went and help provide this incredible experience for them.

They grow up so quickly.... make those memories before they don't want to even go on vacation with you :D

We just got back from a three day with our 15 and 17 year old sons. It was our first cruise ever. We didn't go to the sail away party or any of the shows, nor did we use the family pool, but we managed to have a great time. :)

As I said in the report I just posted, we enjoyed our verandah, Palo, the adult area, the spa, The District, as well as the excursions.
