Hong Kong Hotel-Chinese New Year

We were in Hong Kong for Chinese New Years this year. We stayed at the Salisbury YMCA. It was wonderful. Excellent location, great price and amazing views of the fireworks. I don't think they have opened reservations yet for next year - but request a Harbor front room. You will have a great view of the fire works.

Looking for recommendations for a hotel in Hong Kong for Jan 22-25/12.

Chinese New Year is Jan 23 so we know rates will be up.

Looking to get close to downtown for less than $200/night.

I agree with the suggestion for the YMCA-Salisbury. It may seem strange staying at a Y but this is run as an inexpensive but very good hotel. The location simply cannot be beat. It is closer to the Star ferry between Hong Kong and Kowloon than the Peninsula which is one of the most expensive in the world. The online booking for Jan 2012 isn't available but you could try e-mailing their reservations

Tried the dates for this location on several booking sites & got the message, no rooms available.

Do you think this is because they are not taking booking for Jan/12 yet?

If not available, do you know of anything comparable.

Are you familiar with Hotel Nikko?

They aren't taking on-line reservations yet. That's why i suggested you e-mail them.
