Allure - Westin Beach Resort, Ft. Lauderdale

Recommended Posts

We will be staying here right before our cruise on December 4th. Anyone stayed here before?

Close to port? Airport?

Anything around the hotel? Shopping, restaurants?

Shuttle to port?

Anything you can tell us is appreciated.

We stayed there last year for 3 nights before our cruise. Got the hotel on hotwire for a good price. The hotel was located across the street from the beach, which was what we wanted. It was maybe a 10 minute cab ride to the port but they do not offer a shutte. We ate one night at the hotel (Shula's) and the other nights we walked about 5-10 minutes to find something. There was an open mall-like area that had eateries and also a CVS attached to it. Also there was a Starbucks in the hotel which was convenient. We would definitely stay there again.

We stayed there last month and have booked it again for Feb 2012. I like the Westin properties and loved being on the beach. I attached a pic of the view from our window. This was a "partial view" view room, but we were happy with it. There are two buildings, we were in the south building, same as Starbucks, which was perfect.

Stayed next door at the W (upscale Starwood) just last week before our Allure cruise. While distance wise it's close to the airport, the beach traffic was awful and it took 45 minutes (and $40 since the meter runs when standing). Had the taxi driver just stayed on A1A and backtracked we could have saved a half hour. The W has a free Acura Experience shuttle to the port. You get a short sales pitch in a really nice SUV crossover. We tipped the driver $10.

Best place to eat we found from tripadvisor was the Casablanca Cafe which was great. Get there before 4:30 and you can order off the lunch menu. It a very short walk.

PS - we got the W for only $90 on Priceline.

The restaurant at the Westin, Shula's, well the food could not be worse.

Much better off at the Marriott Harbour Beach which is most closer to the port, smack on an incredibly large beach, and the buffet breakfasts while not cheap at $19.00 each, are to die for!

We also ate at Casablanca after reading reviews and agree it was very good.

We had a great meal at Shula's ... pricey ... but very good nonetheless. We went with family who came to see us before our cruise and it was their pick. Would we eat there again if we stayed there? Probably not. :)
