IamaTexasCruiser Posted March 11, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2011 " A self-service, no-fee bar is available in the evenings." this is what it says for the concerge room. I understand self service if i want a beer, just go and grab a brew, and i know how to pour a glass of wine, but what does that mean if i want a mixed drink? 39august Posted March 11, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 11, 2011 There is a concierge in charge of the lounge and at least one and usually two bar servers. On some ships you are allowed to pour your own wine, and sometimes get your own beer, but mixed drinks are made by the bar servers in the lounge. And on many ships, only the bar servers are allowed to handle the drinks. Don't know why this is advertized as "self serve". Free drinks are served from 5Pm-8:30 PM on most ships and drinks are not supposed to be taken out of the concierge lounge. That can vary by discretion of the concierge. Tranquil Waters Posted March 11, 2011 #3 Share Posted March 11, 2011 We have been on cruises when there was not a bar server in the CL. And passengers did indeed have to mix their own mixed drinks if they wanted a mixed drink. But most of the time there have been bar servers as mentioned. Perhaps it is worded as such so that they (RCI) do not have complaints of promising something they did not deliver when there is not a server available? mjm325 Posted March 11, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 11, 2011 we were on Legends of the Seas in summer 2007 and yes, the concierge lounge was self service. The concierge was always there, usually mingling, so they had a table with beer, wine and liquor bottles, and a table with glasses, ice buckets and mixers.... and yes, we made our own.... poured quite heavily in fact ;)
