Sorry to hear that AZ canceled their call to Kyoto but safety of the passengers, crew and ship are paramount.

It is a shame though that many making their first and presumably their last trip to that part of the world would miss seeing Kyoto.

Hello where2next,

Thank you very much for following this situation so closely. I appreciate your dedication. I just posted the same information on the original thread titled “Earthquake in Japan.” Also, going forward I will be using that thread to post subsequent updates.

Here is an update on the Azamara Quest’s itinerary change prepared by our corporate communications department:

Earthquake in Japan – Azamara Quest / March 12, 2010Yesterday, March 11, Japan experienced a devastating earthquake. The earthquake, which was the biggest in modern Japanese history, and the tsunami that followed, caused extensive damage and multiple casualties. We are extremely saddened by the destruction caused by the earthquake and tsunami, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan.

The entire country of Japan is still assessing the extent of the damage caused by the earthquake and tsunami. While initial reports suggest that Kyoto (Osaka) did not sustain major damage, we feel that the recent events and continuing aftershocks have the potential to seriously disrupt Azamara Quest’s experience and our operations in port.

Because of this, and in an abundance of caution, Azamara Quest will no longer call on Kyoto (Osaka) on Sunday, March 13. Currently, no other Azamara itinerary has been modified due to the earthquake. We will update this information should there be any changes.
