rbrooks418 Posted March 14, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 14, 2011 Hi. I am on the Carnival Glory on April 3-10. We arrive in Belize at 8 am (I assume this is Miami time) so really it's 6 am? Same for Cozumel. In Roatan we arrive at 7 am... so really 5 am local time? Awfully early for the locals, and I wonder if there is even any sense at getting off the ship right away, but I don't want to miss out either. Roatan is only 7am-3pm(or 5-1) so if I want to go to West Bay, seems I need to get going right away. Is this correct or does the ship adjust time since these islands don't observe daylight savings time? Thanks!
Sargent_Schultz Posted March 14, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 14, 2011 Mexico does observe Daylight Savings Time, but sometimes not the same dates as the US. Cruise ships = Income (important to most countries) Some ships adjust time, some don't.
jdbmga Posted March 14, 2011 #3 Share Posted March 14, 2011 We are on that same cruise. It'll be 7:00 local time in Cozumel when wer arrive b/c there is only a 1 hour time difference starting April 3rd when they observe DST. We will be there on the 5th. http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=1235 I hope this helps :)
rbrooks418 Posted March 14, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted March 14, 2011 Thanks, Sgt. Schultz and Debbie. Debbie, I looked at that website. Since Roatan doesn't observe DST, it looks we'll be there at 5 am unless the ship changes times for that port, which I doubt. It's going to be a great cruise though. This is my second time on the Glory and I really enjoyed the ship last time.

They all do, sometimes they have different start dates than in the US, but other than Grand Cayman all western ports observe daylight savings time. blondietink Posted March 14, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 14, 2011 I was under the impression that you always follow ship time. I'm sure the locals want to make money and know exactly when the ships dock in port, regardless of what the local time is.

You always follow ship time for arriving & leaving port, but if you have an excursion planned, it is typically scheduled on their local time, which may differ. arpie05 Posted March 14, 2011 #8 Share Posted March 14, 2011 The website lists San Salvador (which I couldn't get Roatan to pop up but they have the same flag) as in Standard Central Zone - No Day lightsaving in 2011. They are the same time zone as Cozumel until April 3 when Mexico springs forward. It's possible you may set your clocks back one hour. Then you will be correct with Cozumel and one hour ahead of Roatan instead of two. It is possible that the time listed to dock is their time. The Captain usually makes an announcement when you arrive what time it is onboard and what time it is on land. When I sailed to Alaska we had to adjust our clocks several nights in a row. You will have to let us know!
