Transatlantic Cruises

We've been on 3 TAs and yes the ships were fairly full. Felt like a normal cruise except the average age was a little higher.

That would make sense. I'd rather sail with the older cruisers than the younger ones! :D

We were very surprised that they saiedl with slightly less than full complement. Our cruise director told us how many passengers we had on board and it was a almost a hundred under the 2 per room capacity.

I always thought they would give the rooms away to get the crew's compensation covered by tips plus the on-board sales revenue (casino, drink, photos, shore excursions....). Someone I met on board said that on long stretches they use the extra "room/weight allowance" for food and fuel. I don't know if that's true or not, it doesn't make sense to me.

It is a 16 day cruise with several stops in Spain, then Grand Turk before heading to its new Homeport of Galveston. I am SO excited, and am planning to forget that it is my 50th birthday present.. :p

For Spain we only stopped in Barcelona. We took a lovely walk up Las Ramblas to the Picasso museum, bought some wine and had a beautiful day there. A lot of folks went to the Gaudi sites and enjoyed them.

For me, I love the sea days. Never enough of them!

It sounds like a fun itinerary. Hope you have a great crossing.

I am very excited. We are staying in Barcelona a few days so definitely plan to enjoy Las Ramblas and some wine! I love the sea days also and we have so many of them that it is a real luxury. One day we are planning to stay in our pajamas, order room service and watch movies all day. Even on the 7 day cruises, you don't feel like you can "waste" a day doing that so we are looking forward to that. And ending up in Grand Turk is a bonus so we are planning to snorkel and hit a nice beach before coming home.
