what is the smoking policy on carnival lines? we haven't traveled on carnival for about 10 years now and they use to smoke all over and anywhere on the ship. they even could smoke in the elevators on one ship. hopefully they have tighter standards now. happy cruising to all.

Hi cabinboy.. smoking is allowed on Carnival.. on the starboard side outside.. most bars.. cabins and balcony.. casino.. your funtimes will tell you where and where not smoking is allowed..

 

Can I just give you a word of advice here.. (and no I am not trying to be rude) but this subject has come up like 10 times this past week.. you can easily do a search or just scan through a few pages and find what you are looking for...;)

not rude at all. i think every board has something on smoking but it's been awile for me on carnival and was just investigating the policy and by the looks of things,it's almost the same way too. almost all the ships are the same as outside smoking goes(some better than others) but the interior is what concerns me (casinos,hallways,rooms,etc.). happy cruising.

I can only speak from experience from hanging out with smokers on a cruise. 99% of them DID NOT smoke in their cabins for those entire cruises, they smoked in the designated smoking areas. I've never seen anyone smoking in the hallway.

Also I am not sure what ship you are sailing on but the smoking does vary ship to ship as for the areas allowed... also the newer ships Splendor and Dream have Spa cabins where no smoking is allowed inside or on the balcony...

looks like i won't be booking a cruise on carnival any time soon. their smoking policy is too loose for me. i like to dance and gamble but not in a smoke filled enviorement. thank you all for the great information. it helped me make my decision to stick with celebrity.

I'll start this off by saying I *HAVE* searched Carnival.com and in these forums for answers to these questions and don't feel confident that I have sufficient information, and so I'd appreciate those of you who know sharing your expertise. My questions are regarding the Carnival Spirit, which we'll be boarding at the end of June. My fiance and I are both non-smokers, and I am particularly sensitive to smoke and even the smell of "old" smoke. I understand that other cruise lines are more restrictive on smoking than Carnival, but the Carnival dates are the only set that fit into our crazy schedule.

 

Sooooo...

 

1) Is smoking allowed in suites? (Obviously, I'm hoping not due to the lingering smell)

 

2) If there is, how well are the suites cleaned between cruises to eradicate the smell? (Seems there's such a short turnaround that deep-cleaning would be difficult to achieve)

 

3) Is smoking allowed on balconies? (I see old threads about people not being able to use their balconies due to nearby chain smokers and that concerns me a lot)

 

4) We booked an aft wraparound suite (Vista Suite)... if there's smoking on balconies on either side of us, how much tends to make its way to that corner location?

 

5) The policy states that there's smoking on the Starboard decks... how much of that smoke is likely to make its way to the back starboard corner of the ship? Would we be better off moving to the port side if a comparable suite is available there?

 

6) From previous experience of non-smoking passengers, what are the most smoke-free public areas of the ship to hang out in the evenings? I know which areas they state are ok for smoking, but that doesn't tell me whether areas nearby suffer from smoke drift.

 

7) Is there any non-smoking area in the casino? If so, how effective is the division... is it non-smoking in name only?

If you do smell smoke, tell your steward. There are things he can do to fix the problem.

4) we booked an aft wraparound suite (vista suite)... If there's smoking on balconies on either side of us, how much tends to make its way to that corner location? i'm guessing about 48%...lol. Maybe you'll be lucky and not have smoking neighbors. Just the luck of the draw.

 

5) the policy states that there's smoking on the starboard decks... How much of that smoke is likely to make its way to the back starboard corner of the ship? Would we be better off moving to the port side if a comparable suite is available there? starboard smoking refers to the outside decks. Shouldn't affect you at all since you're below lido, right?

I'm a smoker, but I do understand about the smell.

 

I don't smoke in my house, car, or cabin on a cruise. I'm a balcony smoker, which is why I book balconies.

 

My son stood outside my car to smoke a cig the other day and when he got in the car...man, that stunk! So I do know the smell lingers.

 

So...if you have a smoker nearby, you may catch a whiff. All depends on which way the winds blowing, ship movement, etc.

 

I think you'll find that most balcony smokers are not out there 24/7 smoking. If they're anything like me...maybe one or two in the morning with coffee, once or twice during the day, and a couple in the evening.

I'll start this off by saying I *HAVE* searched Carnival.com and in these forums for answers to these questions and don't feel confident that I have sufficient information, and so I'd appreciate those of you who know sharing your expertise. My questions are regarding the Carnival Spirit, which we'll be boarding at the end of June. My fiance and I are both non-smokers, and I am particularly sensitive to smoke and even the smell of "old" smoke. I understand that other cruise lines are more restrictive on smoking than Carnival, but the Carnival dates are the only set that fit into our crazy schedule.

 

Sooooo...

 

1) Is smoking allowed in suites? (Obviously, I'm hoping not due to the lingering smell) YES

 

2) If there is, how well are the suites cleaned between cruises to eradicate the smell? (Seems there's such a short turnaround that deep-cleaning would be difficult to achieve) they use ozone or something to get rid of the smell if you smell stale smoke tell your steward

 

3) Is smoking allowed on balconies? (I see old threads about people not being able to use their balconies due to nearby chain smokers and that concerns me a lot) Yes it is allowed on balconies... sorry if you have chain smokers but they paid for their balcony too..

 

4) We booked an aft wraparound suite (Vista Suite)... if there's smoking on balconies on either side of us, how much tends to make its way to that corner location? stay aft and you should be fine.. I am still amazed at all these people when at sea and the ship is doing 20 knots that they smell the smoke for longer than a mille second:rolleyes:

 

5) The policy states that there's smoking on the Starboard decks... how much of that smoke is likely to make its way to the back starboard corner of the ship? Would we be better off moving to the port side if a comparable suite is available there? Starboard deck 9.. you are on deck 4.. no problem

 

6) From previous experience of non-smoking passengers, what are the most smoke-free public areas of the ship to hang out in the evenings? I know which areas they state are ok for smoking, but that doesn't tell me whether areas nearby suffer from smoke drift. stay away from smoking bars.. they are usually closed off except the casino area

 

7) Is there any non-smoking area in the casino? If so, how effective is the division... is it non-smoking in name only? i could not tell you if there is non smoking areas but I do seem to remember seeing some slots non smoking... but you will not get a whole room dedicated to non smoking
