Departure Fees at Sydney Airport?

Recommended Posts

Looking forward to our second trip to Australia/New Zealand in Feb. 2012, sailing on the Radiance B2B Sydney>Perth, then Perth>New Zealand>Sydney. We were there once before about 5 years ago, sailing from Sydney, then flew home from Auckland. There were a couple of big surprises at the Auckland airport - first one was the crowds, as it was the start of the Easter holiday period. The second was the fact that we had to stand in one line to get a boarding pass, then go to another line where we presented our boarding pass and had to pay a departure fee (maybe $20?), then go back to the check in line. Luckily we had gotten to the airport early for our flight. My question, since we're trying to decide whether to fly home the day the cruise ends or wait until the next day - is there a similar system when departing the Sydney airport?

We're very happy to have found this board and will probably have more questions when the time gets closer.

Hi,

Check to see if it's included in your airfares ....... as when we purchase airfares here it's included. :)

WOW very nice cruise to look forward to.

Yes it came as a shock to us too, when we tried to leave NZ...... maybe they want everyone to stay.. LOL! I think it was $25 NZ each for the departure tax. This was in 2008 though!

Aussie departure tax is included in the airfares if bought in Australia.

It changed last year sometime.

Its the same as Australia now, they hide the tax away in your ticket price.

The ticket should say somewhere on it that it includes ,

and you have paid , the departure/airport tax.

When travelling from Sydney, all taxes are charged on the airline ticket.

The departure tax (AU) is AUD 47.00 This is the departure tax that the airlines collected on behalf of the Australian government. Also on the airline ticket there is an amount of AUD 50.54 (WY) (1/2 if you only arrive or depart from SYD airport) This particular one goes to the owners of the airport (MacQuarie Bank). Also on the ticket is an AUD 8.30 with a tax code of IA. This is for baggage screening and also paid to Sydney Airport Corporation.
