Request for Recommendations for Visiting Taormina from Port of Catania

Has anyone gone to Taormina from the port of Catania on their own (i.e., not a ship's tour) and if so, how did you do it? Were taxis readily available at the port and if so, what can one expect to pay either one way or round trip? Did anyone take a private tour or use a taxi company they could recommend?

Thanks. I hadn't realized those boards existed but was able to find some discussion and useful ideas over there. Sorry but I'm still learning how to use this site effectively and the more I discover, the better it gets! Thanks for your patience with us newbies.
