Toast1412 Posted April 14, 2011 #51 Share Posted April 14, 2011 I am getting ready to take my 6th Carnival cruise and still have never been on their private island. Is anyone else in the same boat?? I've been on Castaway Cay which I loved 3 times, but never Half Moon Cay. Anyone have pics or info they'd like to share about it? Thanks It's nice, although I lost my wedding band swimming out to the swim area ropes, DOH!! The water was such a light bright blue that the kids in our group were insisting that the water was fake and had been artificially colored. It was nice to be able to use the sign and sail card on shore too.
live.love.cruise Posted April 14, 2011 #52 Share Posted April 14, 2011 Hey do you mind sharing why you will not sail on the Fascination again.!I have been looking at leaving out of Jacksonville. Hey do you mind sharing why you will not sail on the Fascination again.!I have been looking at leaving out of Jacksonville. The Fascination was my least favorite Carnival cruise. The food, service, and staff was average at best. We had assigned dining w/ same wait staff every night. Our waiters never referred to us by name and service was extremely slow on 2 nights. On our past cruises (Carnival & others) we usually build a “bond” with our wait staff and look forward to seeing them each evening. That wasn’t the case this time around. It felt more like having dinner @ a random restaurant. I will say the kids loved the water park and my mom won @ the casino. My last cruise on Carnival was over 1 year ago and we cruised with Royal twice since then. I was really looking forward to being back with Carnival…..but my experience was just ok. I still love Carnival ( I hope!) and will give them another shot but I think I’m over the smaller class of ships. I purchased some FCC onboard the Fascination and we’re leaning toward the Legend for next year.

lidodeckbound Posted April 18, 2011 #54 Share Posted April 18, 2011 We have almost been there! Unfortunately on the Liberty in March the ship had to make a U-turn and head back to Miami for an emergency medical debark and we had to skip Half Moon Cay. I have already booked another cruise to try again! Ditto! March 19-26?

Fascination was actually to date my favorite shipe, not to big and not to small. But that was a long time ago too.
K&P Luv2Cruise Posted April 18, 2011 #56 Share Posted April 18, 2011 Been on 7 cruises and not been there either. In January went to Catalina Island where we used our sail and sign card to purchase drinks. It was nice but would like to try HMC. We'll be stopping at Catalina Island during our November cruise ! Do you have any pictures of it ?? I've been to HMC (can't say enough about that beautiful place), and have heard that Catalina Island is a very close second. Would love to see pic's ! :)
friedshrimp Posted April 18, 2011 #57 Share Posted April 18, 2011 Upcoming cruise is 4th on Carnival and I will still have not done their private island. CocoCay (HAL), Labadee (RCCL), and Princess Cay (Princess) have all been wonderful beach days!
krhpee Posted April 18, 2011 #58 Share Posted April 18, 2011 Have not been. This actually provides a great segue into a discussion/remark/comment I wanted to post. To me, paying Carnival (or anyone else's excursion outfit) to take me to a beach and feed me lunch seems like a rip-off. Didn't I just pay $$$$ to get on board and sit out on deck, looking at the sea, and eat all I want for an included price? A beach break just doesn't seem worth the $$ to me. If I do any excursions, I like it to be something more active or involved with the local culture or the like. my feelings exactly. I want to experience the local culture and flavor not some man made pretty beach with other tourists.

mara93 Posted April 19, 2011 #60 Share Posted April 19, 2011 Just got off the Fascination & my intention was to go to HMC but I gave my husband the option. Key West or HMC? He picked KW. It was his bday present. Maybe next time!
