caribsun Posted April 12, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2011 We stayed pre cruise @ JW Marriott and post cruise InterContinental. No complaints and very close to Bourbon St.
MarkBearSF Posted April 12, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 12, 2011 Sailing on the 6/19 SPIRIT out of New Orleans. Our group is flying in from California the day before. Any suggestions on hotels? You'll get lots of the usual recommendations for the usual chains. However, a month or two ago, we stayed in a hotel that was really special and will likely be our preferred N.O. hotel for now on. The Hotel Provincial is a compound of 4-5 buildings surrounding courtyards and pools located a block past Jackson Square on Chartres St, near Cafe DuMonde. The buildings are of various vintages, and one is haunted (although we didn't experience anything haunting). Attached to the hotel is an excellent restaurant, "Stella!" (Nicholas Cage was in the restaurant when we dined there). Their rates are very reasonable, the staff is very friendly and it's a wonderfully quiet bit of New Orleans character in the Quarter. Our other recommendation is quite different. When our cruise arrived late, we needed to find someplace for the night. Following TripAdvisor's recommendations, we selected the Quality Inn and were upgraded to a suite (for $90/night) - the staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. Yes, the property itself is a bit worn and it's a few blocks from the Quarter, but the price and service made it a great experience.
Tralynn Posted April 12, 2011 #4 Share Posted April 12, 2011 The Drury Inn on Poydras St. and Courtyard Convention Center are good choices pre-cruise.
truchattycathy Posted April 12, 2011 #5 Share Posted April 12, 2011 I love the Drury Inn. They have some good summer specials right now. I think the code word is Dream. On our next cruise, their rates were extremely high, so we booked with Hampton Inn Garden District because they had good rates and free cruise parking. Good luck. I've been staying at the Hotel Provincial since 1987 and have seen it go through many changes but it has never lost it's charm and the two generations of staff that I've seen are always friendly...a definite must! chime Posted April 15, 2011 #8 Share Posted April 15, 2011 We always stay at the Hilton Riverwalk. That way we can watch the ship arrive. Just ask for a river facing room. The cruiseport is within walking distance. Have a great trip.
