Le Havre private tour

I am trying to arrange a half day private taxi tour when my cruise docks at Le Havre for one day. Any suggestion of a reliable English-speaking driver-guide and local sightseeing attractions?

There really are not many attractions in LeHavre which is why most visitors use it as a "get away" place to go elsewhere. Probably the closest place to LeHavre where we would spend any time is Honfleur (we love that small town) which would be accessible by taxi. But keep in mind that French taxis are quite expensive. For half a day you are talking about hundreds of Euros.

We were thinking of renting a car and exploring the Cote Fleurie west of LeHavre. The NY Times had an article on this area not so long ago which you can find here.

Does anyone know how easy/difficult it is to get to a car rental place from the ship? The one time we called at LeHave, we docked in a totally industrial, rather desolate area a mile or two across train tracks from a somewhat dodgy-looking residential area. Any chance of having a car rental agency meet us at the ship with a car, and allow us to drop it off at the ship when we are finished?

Renting a car in LeHavre can be a real pain. On a few trips we have simply booked with whoever had the best price and taken a taxi from the port to the rental car office. However, last year we were in the newer terminal building and noticed there was a local rental car dealer right in the terminal (we cannot remember the name of the company other then it was local). Perhaps somebody has the name and e-mail of that agency...but the problem is that without knowing which pier your ship will be using even that is not a perfect solution.

As an aside, when we were in LeHavre last year we decided to take the train to Rouen for the day. We walked from the port to the train station (about 1 mile) which was good exercise. When we got back to LeHavre late in the afternoon (it was a Saturday) we thought it might be nice to grab a taxi to the port (we were tired having walked all day). Well, as is all too typical in France there was not a single taxi at the train station...and there was a queue of about 10 people waiting for a taxi. After waiting 10 min without a single taxi coming to the station (and several locals were using their phones to get taxis) we ended up walking the mile (perhaps a bit longer) back to the ship. Needless to say we were exhausted that night!

try info@taxis-le-havre.com

It's in other services in the menu on the left as information.

We booked this company for a tour from Le Havre when we were there recently. The car was very comfortable, the service reliable and the driver delightful .... but his English wasn't very good, so I had to act as translator. However the company answers emails in English so you must stress you need an English speaking driver. We really enjpoyed our tour of the area around Honfleur then had a lovely lunch and stroll round the beautiful town.

We know this area pretty well having spent several holidays there in the past, so would recommend the coast west of Le Havre if you do hire a car. There are lots of pretty, typically french towns and a quite old-fashioned atmosphere.

The in-terminal rental agency is "Rentacar"

However, the same company offers cars for half the price at their downtown office:

Bless you for posting this info. It has driven us nuts for over a year that we could not remember (of find) the name of that company. The one unfortunate thing for some cruisers is I believe this agency (and just about every other agency) is closed on Sundays and Holidays.

Thanks for the information. The coast wet of Le Havre sounds perfect. I did not see a specific tour for that area. Did you just request it? How long was your tour? Thanks again.
