pe4all Posted April 26, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2011 I just bought travel insurance. Hope we don't need it. But, it has nagged me for weeks! Guess i'll be happier knowing we have something vs nada! We always buy it for peace of mind. Never used it - until our Dream cruise, when dd19 (perfectly healthy young lady) got ill on board, and we were "left" in a hospital in Belize for 3 days. Just got my final check from Travelguard yesterday - they covered every penny (a few thousand dollars) we had laid out! Many people would say travel insurance is a waste of money - just send them to me, and I'll tell them how "bad" it would have been if we hadn't had insurance! sjcruiser Posted April 27, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 27, 2011 We buy it now for cruises and all our trips now. It's well worth it for the peace of mind if anything should happen.
deckguy Posted May 3, 2011 #4 Share Posted May 3, 2011 Travel insurance can be very important but by no means is it a slam-dunk when it comes to getting claims paid. Some are swift, others drag on, some denied. Save all paperwork and keep notes should you experience a covered incident. We filed a $7,500 claim last year, had it denied three times but after getting our state's department of insurance involved (God bless them) we were paid in ful.. Not to scare you but keep records rather than trying to fill out a claim form based on recollections. By the way: out claim was well documented but still required 9 months of persistence on our part.
